Date: Sunday 18th January 2009 Location: Queen's Hall Courtyard. St. Ann's, Trinidad Promotions: 3 Canal and The Cut+Clear Crew Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery I always await the 3canal season of shows, so missing the launch of "Joy + Fire" was an absolute no, no! An outdoors concert outside Queen's Hall with a Sunday sunset was just what the doctor ordered. The show got rolling about a half an hour late to the vibrant sounds of African drums, which roared familiar African beats through out St. Ann's, that the kids were happy to dance to. After which, we had three local performers come on stage to represent their Carnival music. First was S.K.H.I, then Alicia Lee (Gypsy's daughter), and last but not least, Nester who is Merchant's son. Then Canboulay performed their slash soca and rock beats. Through all the performances there was never a lull, and 3canal fans were even treated to TnT's #1 rhythm section, the Laventille Rhythm Section.
While getting the light show together for 3canal's performance, I went to check out the food scene. Nothing too special.. bake and shark, burgers and corn soup. 3canal and the cut+clear crew finally come on stage under a mixed orange, yellow and green lighting. Now since all of we grew up with 3canal, there was not one song they sang that we didn't know. They performed for about an hour and the kids, families and couples (and singles) enjoyed it to the last bit. Nadine & the TJJ TV crew caught up with the Rapso group for some one on one time after the show. But here is de ting; this whole concert was to promote the first legal digital download site in T&T - www.trinidadtunes.com - which hosts today the music and stories of over 900 artists, with over 9,000 songs. So thanks to an innovative collaboration between Flow, Trinidadtunes.com and 3canal comes the campaign: FREE+LEGAL DOWNLOAD. You can download mp3 format with the album artwork attached. You can download onto your cell phones also. But for full albums, you have to use a Caribbean credit card which helps for internet buying in the Caribbean. This is all brought to you by Rhythm Productions and the Caribbean Music Group. You can find music from David Rudder, The Mighty Sparrow, Machel Montano, Rikki Jai, Mastermind Productions and many more. So check it out and do the right thing .... support our local artistes. Peace, ps. Roger, we sorry for taking your corn soup boy ... we owe ya! |
