Well Chutney @ U.W.I happened last night and everybody who had class this morning diligently got up and went just as model University Students do (Young Simmo said he thought he heard somebody say they think the lecturer said he may not show up early to class... so I guess that's why he took the day off ... lol). So of course it's "Wining Season" on the U.W.I. St. Augustine Campus and as we all know the University's Guild of Students always have their annual Carnival parties as it starts on a Wednesday with a Kaiso/Calypso competition, Thursday Chutney, and Campus Carnival or the parades of the bands followed on Friday.

The various trucks (drinks, music and even a water truck) lined up by the engineering department at about 5pm and with everyone putting their finishing touches on their costumes we were ready to parade at around sunset. The main bands Chocolate Mania, Red Jokers, Illusions, Deliria, Children of the Forest, Lacaray, and Vegas were all dressed up in their costumes as the highly anticipated event got underway.

Unlike Carnival's all over the world where prices for costumes would be $1000 and up, this event was much cheaper and costumes ranged between $80 to $140, drinks inclusive ... it cah get better!! Being a "Jungle Juicer" for TJJ and a student of U.W.I., your boy Young Juice had to represent and was on the scene as well. The event was energized by 4 music trucks each with its own set of DJ's ranging from the U.W.I.'s own "World's Greatest University Sound" Cyberia to Redymix Entertainment and some guest DJs like Trevlyn, Akil and The Associate Degree.

Well boy ..... these future doctors, engineers, accountants, managers etc. apparently have one common word in their vocabulary and that word has to be ..... "JAMMISHNESS"!!! Cuz everybody was jus breakin' away on everybody else. Down d back stretch by the Engineering Faculty was HEAT .... AHHHHHHHHH ..... Cue the Water Truck...... BUT NOT 2 close 2 me ... allyuh cyah see I holdin ah expensive camera in meh hand!!! Take It low Water Truck man ... lol ... we movin thru de dance again.

Getting a drink was errrrrrr .... alright ... beers, rum, scotch, vodka, chasers and water ... we will give them a 3 out of 5. Jamming, winning, splashing, drinking, and feteing were the familiar themes as the music pounced "out of your body and back to yourself", as some would say. The crowd was feeling it as my job became easier, so it was "click click" one time as they came. All of a sudden we had to maintain ah order as the bands had 2 cross the "stage" to be judged. All stormers get out de people dem bands!!! So after a dramatic burst in front of the judges under the Red Bull tent (congrats to "Children Of The Forest" for winning Band Of The Year) the vibes continued.

As the evening passed, night was soon on us, as it took about 5 fun filled hours to get on the next side of campus, not to mention the little delay as the taller trucks had to navigate safely under some ancient Grandfather trees (photos 80 and 81). Along the way, several Soca artistes stopped by and performed on trucks including Jungle and 3Suns.

So imagine it supposed to have ah After Party startin at 11pm in the Main Car Park with Shurwayne, Roy Cape All Stars and Bunji, Fayann and The Asylum band ... hmmmm the only way to get the parade over was to cut off the music and tell people to go in the fete. Well dat was about enough U.W.I. Carnival action for us in 24 hours.... so we heading home for a quick 'fresh' and is to town we headin ... "Who say Army Fete???"

D' Young Juice and Young Simmo setting the pace for the Fetalotathon® 2008!! smile
