Revellers Mas 2K9 Launch ... "A Tribute To Sweet T&T"
Folks, this is Lece, a new up and coming addition to the Trini Jungle Juice family. Now, I am gladly here to report on my first official fete Trini Revelers 2K9 Band Launch ... A Tribute to Sweet T&T.
When I arrived around 10:45 PM, I was greeted by a not so full St. Johns Ambulance Courtyard, nevertheless I went on with my duties. The crowd was a mixed one with old and young alike (as I sometimes say the sense and senseless, you pick ... lol) Anyways, The Carib Rhythm Section banged their drums and blew their brass horns for a full 20 minutes warming folks up for the upcoming Mas Presentation, and that they did as the crowd soon fell into a chipping mode preparing themselves for what was ahead.
After a long and anticipated await, at approximately 11:30 PM, the C.E.O. of Trini Revellers came out and welcomed the ardent Trini Revelers crowd. The playing of the National Anthem then followed before the pumped and excited patrons could welcome the costumes of 'Sweet T&T' to the stage one by one, starting with Sunday Morning Market, Pitch Lake, Parang, Maracas Beach, Church on Sunday Morning, Carib, Steelpan, only to name a few. The presentation lasted for about 45 minutes. Some costumes were impressive and some, welllllllllll ... did not tickle my fancy. There were 3 costumes though that were crowd pleasers (cant get my finger on the names right now, but trust me they were gorgeous) and my personal favorites. Because of those I just might be swayed into playing with Trini Revelers come February 2k9 ... who knows??!!
Finally, what was the best part of the night (in my humble opinion) was when Shurwayne Winchester & Traffik came on stage at about 12:40 AM to screams and applause. Eddie Charles and Sean Caruth wowed the crowd for the 1st 20 minutes with some old and now crowd pleasers, followed by some heavy bumping and grinding. Then the crooner himself, Mr. Winchester dressed in grey slacks, a white shirt and a grey knitted cardigan came on with his sweet melodious voice, floating through the midnight dew to Dont Stop. The crowd stood in awe watching this eclectic individual perform his greatest hits, and he even wowed them with some Reggae, R&B and Hip Hop tunes.
All and all, it was a good launch, although my expectations of the overall ambiance fell a little short. I dont know, maybe a little more décor and colours to jazz things up a little more. But people, please remember time is drawing near. February is almost here and as I was told by the C.E.O. himself, 2 sections are almost SOLD OUT. So hurry up Revelers .... register for your section A.S.A.P.
