Tampa
Bay Caribbean Carnival Fete "It's Wining Season"
As the Carnival celebrations continued in Tampa, the next stop was the West Convention Center where the never aging Byron Lee & the Dragonaires were performing. We arrived to a packed house with lots of beautiful people. The Dragonaires were already in full swing, playing renditions of long time Carnival hits. There were many familiar faces in the house, including Leon Coldero & Code 868 (who were schedule to perform later that night), the Asylum Band, Seebee from De Panyard (Atlanta) and the GCCDC crew from ATL ... all showing nuff luv to the TJJ family. Now allyuh know when it comes to Carnival, no matter where it is, Trini's and Caribbean people love to follow instructions. Whether it be following Collin Lucas' famous "Dollar Wine" or Super Blue's "Get Something And Wave", if yuh give de people an dem ting to do, dey will do it!! Well, that was the order of the night. The Dragonaires had the feters doing all kinda ting ... running up north, going down south, moving to the left, moving to the right ... it was just nonstop bacchanal in the Convention Center. We just guess that people were warming up for Sunday's parade! As the pace started to slow down a bit, Byron Lee took to the stage with his guitar and showed the patrons why he's been one of Soca's best band leaders for the past 52 years. Playing some of his hit tunes like "Tiny Winey", Byron Lee left no room for sitting down as he gave a stellar performance. As Code 868 began getting themselves together to hit the stage, DJ Stephen from ATL held on to the microphone from the DJ booth and turned it up a bit. Though the night was running on a tight schedule, Leon Coldero & Code 868 were able to get in a few songs before the Tampa Police closed in on the time lines just about 4AM. Just ask Ghetto Flex, as he tried to get in ah verse, they put the lights on!! Uh uhhhh .... sorry! But guess what, he was ready for them at the after parade concert on Sunday. Trust meh! In all, the night was good. There was the expectation that the party would have been slamming, and even though it fell a little short of expectations, people had a great time and so did we. Don't forget also, TJJ TV was there to film all the action, so look out for it. Yes, our video editors are working double time! Okay, it's off to the hotel to rest up for tomorrow's action. De heat.... awwwwwww!! JoyJuice for the TJJ family ==================================== |
