The Caribbean people of ATL may not have to search for a home for Soca music much longer as Wasi Entertainment has taken the forefront in representing the Caribbean community in Atlanta, GA by hosting the very first 'Soca In The City' installment on July 18th, 2008 at the Endenu Bar and Lounge. Jadine 'The Soca Diva', in her first trip to Atlanta, left her hometown of Boston, MA for the inaugural event. Now if you haven't seen or heard of this sister as yet .... wow .... she's intelligent, gorgeous, has sex appeal, a beautiful voice and she could rhel wine - and TJJ had a front seat view from the jump! Soca In The City promoter, Wasi Philbert, said that he has been looking forward to this event since he coordinated the most successful Carnival that Atlanta has seen to date (view Atlanta Carnival '08 coverage). Prior to the show start time, Jadine had an opportunity to tour ATL, so Wasi Entertainment arranged a full day of events, to allow the Caribbean Community to know exactly who Jadine is. Wanting a taste of home cooked Caribbean food, Jadine and her manager Victor (VicRae Entertainment) stopped by Tassa Roti Shop in Marietta. Tassa Roti Shop, who by the way, was also a sponsor for the Soca In The City. Gracious hosts of the shop, Rhea and Chaffick (both Trinidadian natives), were very hospitable and opened their doors to Jadine. They even allowed her to help prepare doubles behind the counter. After the meal, where the we got to chow down on ah lil 'Oil down' (allyuh remember dat one?), we went to the location of the event to do a mini photo shoot with Jadine. After which, we made our way to Radio Station WRFG, to visit one of Atlanta's famous radio personalities Jason Walker or better known as MC Skywalker, native of Jamaica. Later that evening, as we set foot into the Endenu Bar & Lounge, the vibes was nice, the setting ideal, and the music sweet!! With Atlanta's top DJ's on the inside, no one could ask for a better party. DJ Choice One kicked things off nice and easy to set the pace. DJ Touches was up next. Probably one of the smoothest cats in the ATL with nuff chunes to satisfy any crowd. The third DJ to hit the turn tables was DJ Stephen, one of the most popular Caribbean DJ's in Atlanta. Just imagine .... an ideal setting for a Soca event, the baddest DJ's in Atlanta and a very talented upcoming and coming Soca artist - with tremendous stage presence - made Soca In The City the newest Soca trend in Hotlanta. Jadine arrived at Endenu around midnight to an excited and Soca starved crowd. After greeting a few of her fans, she took to the stage and thrilled the audience with her exhilarating performance. On her encore performance, she sang Montserrat's very own, Arrow's original rendition of "Tiny Winey". Folks, trust me on this one, she is absolutely gorgeous and her stage performance is fantastic. Well appreciated as expected, Jadine's fans met up with her after the show for a few photo opportunities before she made her way back to the hotel. As the night came to a close, all three DJ's took us home with some serious back in times music. Speaking of back in times, Wasi Entertainment is hosting the next Soca In The City on August 16th, and it's a Back In Times party. Don't miss it!! JoyJuice, out and about!! |
