Hey Honey Bunches of Oats! Spring is finally here. It's almost time to buss out de flip flops and daisy dukes! It was a beautiful Easter Sunday and Team TJJ NY hopped into the TJJ-mobile and headed to the city to cover "Royal Caribbean" a breakfast party at The Madison and Gypsy Tea (combined) in the city. Yeah it was a twofer ... as in two clubs in one. I must say traffic was a bit hectic on our way up de road but we reach soon enough. We didn't even bother to try and find parking we just pulled into the first parking garage and off to the fete we went! As we approached the venue we noticed a lil' line, you know what that means ... the fete was about to be ram. The club décor was quite stunning, the wallpaper was just beautiful and there were lots of disco balls, beads and mirrors (you can see for yourself in some of the photos). Well we were in NYC, so a beautiful ambiance was no surprise. It was very dark though, ah mean dang ... we nearly couldn't find our crew! We must have looked like we were lost walking in circles! We did eventually link up with crew and crew so it was time to get down to business. Elegance Sounds was on the wheels of steel holding down the early vibes and everyone was getting dey early wine on. You already know that we had to thief a lil' wine in de middle of wuk ... heehee! Dr. Wax was up next and he had everybody reminiscing with some sweet, sweet back in time Soca. "Cent ... five cent ... ten cent ... dolla, dolla, dolla!!!" That was actually my favorite session! Of course in true West Indian style, folks were tearing up the bar. The friends and family of TJJ, all of whom usually like to keep a low profile were assembled right in front of the bar ... Action time!!! Uncle Johnnie was the top shotta request! I not calling names but somebody needed more hands, and somebody needed more drinks!!! (photo) LOL!!! The level of jamishness was of the charts!!! Of course, nothing tops off a party like tasty food. Our hats are off to the Picky Eaters catering crew. Dressed uniformly in different colors, they served up an assortment of mouth watering items ranging from Sweet and Sour chicken, to a Fruit Salad with walnuts. Deviled eggs dressed with a colorful yolk and cheese. Oh yeah, a fete it not a fete without some good ole Corn Soup (photo). You know I have to mention some of the hot outfits. Yellow seemed to be the color of the day. The ladies really looked fabulous! The fete was in full swing when the iron man Shurwayne Winchester was introduced by Vibesman "Redman". The 2008 Groovy Soca Monarch champ set it off with everyone's favorite dolahin song. The crowd just sang along enjoying the vibes. Next thing we know, as his songs picked up the pace, so did the crowd! Now we have to explain; you see a Back to Basics fete is always tons of great fun with the grown and sexy. They almost don't like to get too sweaty so you know everybody just cool. You would never even dream of having to deal with unruly behavior. So we were most disappointed that our photographer's was unfortunately deliberately shoved to the ground in the melee while trying to do her job. The fete came to a screeching halt and all of the who's who swooped down to ensure that she was okay. Thanks guys, good looking out! Fortunately, she was not injured, but definitely shaken up. Folks we love what we do, and we're doing all of this for YOU! We appreciate the love, and all we ask is that we continue to get your love & respect when it comes to doing our job. There's room for everyone okay! The show resumed after things calmed down and Shurwayne continued his performance. Surprisingly, he invited some wannabe's to come to the stage to deliver some of their renditions of his songs... LOL!!! Ammm ... did somebody say, "Scouting for Talent??!!" The vibes were nice all around toward the end of the night. The vibes were so good, some unidentified fellow went right to sleep ... either he was smashed or had the 'itis' from the food. My boy was knocked out (photo)!!! Special thanks to Back 2 Basics and Upscale Crowd Entertainment. |
