In London, many people from the financial district go out for after work drinks on Friday. As a result, I found myself totally primed up before getting to PoisonUK’s first event following Trini Carnival, "The Welcome Back Jam". I arrived around 11:30PM. The event was being held in the Camden Centre, close to the Kings Cross Station that has been recently spruced up, as well as, the magnificent St. Pancras Church that dates back to 1822.

Walking in, I was surprised at the turn out, which seemed small. However, upon closer examination, there seemed to be about 300 people in attendance. It was the size of the venue that was causing the illusion. You see, the Camden Centre Hall can hold approx. 750 people, so it looked half full. Now unfortunately, this created somewhat of a negative vybe for the majority of the partygoers present. There were a few people who were dancing and having a wonderful time, while others just stood on the outskirts (of the large space in the middle of the dance floor) chillin'. This bought my joyful mood down a little.

There was a large screen on the stage area were a slide show of Trinidad Carnival 2008 created by David Wears and Kevin Joseph was being broadcast. It showed the breathtaking beauty and colourfulness of the Caribbean.

Food was on sale, and there were was a constant flow of people getting tasty Caribbean delights through out the night. The food also bought a fantastic aroma to the party. Music was supplied by DJ Markee, Lyrical Louix and Martin Jay; it was quality as usual, but the shyness of dancing in the open space seemed to affect most .... even me!

There was a nice vibe in the party, however, it never truly shot-off to the high potential we knew it cud go to. The dance ended at 2:30AM and partygoers were left wanting more. I expect the next PoisonUK event to be a sweet one.
