Every year (well for the last 2 or 3 as far as we know), The Normandie Hotel hosts a series of events through out the Carnival season titled "Under the Trees". Besides these events litterly taking place under some huge trees, the beautiful thing is really the wide range of our culture that's exposed. We talking about Steelpan, Kaiso and Calypso ... and if for some odd reason you didn't get to see Machel Montano as yet for the season, "Under the Trees" got you covered!

Since Trini Jungle Juice (TJJ) don't miss a beat for Carnival, on this some what quiet Wednesday night, we ventured down to St. Ann's to take in the sweet sounds of our country's national instrument ... the steel pan. Yes, it's Pan Gone MAD '3', and Ken 'Professor' Philmore together with the Silver Stars and All Stars in the house! Things kicked off around 8pm, and we rolled into The Normandie Hotel around 9:15pm, in time to catch reigning Panorama champs Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra jam on their shiny steel drums.

The started off on a melo note, playing the classics tunes like John Lennon's "Imagine" before moving onto the uptempo stuff. We particularly enjoyed their rendition of Farmer Nappy's popular "Chippin". TJJ TV was on hand, so we'll be bringing you some of the live action soon. After the show, we spoke with one of the Neal & Massy All Stars leading ladies (on Tenors), Nalo Sampson, who give us the scoop of just how competitive this year's Panorama competition was. Again, best of luck guys!

The event wrapped up around 10pm, and it was time to deploy the TJJ Blue Team to the world famous club Zen for RAH Wednesdays. Let's see how Peter C. Lewis & The Orchestra looking for Carnival 2k8. Donna and Wanda ... thanks for having us. See you guys "Under the Trees" for 2009!
