Is Soca that cause de Bacchanal !!! Day 5 in the TJJ Notting Hill 2008 Fete-lympics® ... and it's The Main Event! Today, all carnival babies report bright and early to their respective mas bands to properly nourish themselves for a long day of jumping, waving, wining, wukking, jamming ... you name it! The TJJ Blue Team were not joking around and landed in Lagniappe mas band early o'clock. And we don't blame them ... a band with pure sexi people ... we would be there in a jiffy too! So bap bap, the TJJ Red Team sticking like mud to get out the house. And when we finally do get out, we need to then link up more crew before heading down to Ladbroke Grove. Why peoples, why?? Anyways, WE REACH! Park at St. Quintin Garden and Highlever Road and started walking in the direction of the music. Brrraaaaaps ... we run right into the big Next Level PoisonUK band. Nice. Although we were hoping to hit Lagniappe first, then make our way backwards through all the bands until we see PoisonUK, like last year. With that plan out the window .... let's do the damn ting! Our 1st encounter was with the Soca Police with one of our photographers getting accosted. We talkin' bout some serious pat down and search ... but it was the look of shock with a little bit of embarrassment on his face when some of the officer's hands reach quite up his pants!! Jokes fuh days!!! Of course, you can catch the action live on our TJJ TV Notting Hill 2008 Coverage. So with one man discombo-bo-lated, we decided to start de jammin'. PoisonUK always have real jamishness .. and this year didn't disappoint. The only thing we'll like to see more in this band is "pretty costume". For such a big band, there just not enough masqueraders in full pretty costumes. This year, MTV Base (www.mtv.co.uk) joined PoisonUK on the road, which had it positives and negatives. On the plus side - more vibes ... with Kat on the road hyping the crowd and making his usual wise cracks. On the downside, they actually played Hip Hip on the road!! You should have seen the faces of the Caribbean revellers ... pissed!!! The Hip Hop/RnB set didn't last too long ... thank goodness! We then started our quest to find those sexy sailors in 'Bacchanal Boat' section in Lagniappe. "Allya see Lagniappe?" ... "Where Lagniappe?" we kept asking folks as we moved from band to band. "Dem real far ... good luck with that mission!" was the most common response. We decided to then show some love to all the mas bands on route. We passed thru Cocoyea, Burrokeets UK (large up Martin Jay "The UK Prince of Soca" - Choice FM), Bachanal Mas (www.bachanalmas.com), Arawak Mas band - which featured 'Jewels de Carnaval', a private section which had 'Big' Mike Antoine (Legacy Mas Band) and wife jamming with their masqueraders (shout out to Arawak Mas band's Communications and Marketing Co-ordinator, Denise Darlington, for the usual TJJ love) and the ever so popular London School of Samba (www.londonschoolofsamba.co.uk) - yes, the Brazilian band (we're sure you will be enjoying our TJJ TV Coverage of this band). We got to give credit where credit is due ... Bachanal Mas band ... you guys really looked like a TnT Carnival band. Full pretty costume sections - with section signs n' all - and masqueraders of every creed and race having a fantastic time. For a minute, when covering your band, we left a closeness to actual ting! Keep up the great work. By the time we finally got word of Lagniappe's actual location, they were done for the day. NO WAY!! Although I did manage to get a 1/2 wine (no music) from one of the sexy sailors, the TJJ Red Team were very disappointed that we missed all the live jamming - esp TJJ TV coverage!!! We spoke with a few of the band's masqueraders (including artiste KMC) about their day ... but that didn't help us feel any better .... in fact, it only made us feel worse!! So for that ... one BIG CHEUPS!! Next year fuh sure!! Look ...there goes Mix Juice with her lil' cape on her back ... "Oye ... ah dun wuk for da day!!!" Still loving the Notting Hill Carnival vibes... Wining
