hard out here for a pimp, or in the case of Miami Jouvert, it's hard out
here for a photographer! Though I have never been to Rush, Island Elite &
Hybrid Promotions Miami Jouvert before, we knew what to expect ... water,
paint, free drinks and slackness!! So
we were prepared; old clothes, plastic bag to cover camera and can't forget ....
slackness. Seems there
were hundreds of others equally as prepared because the line was round the corner
of Soho Studios, even from early. As we strolled past the line we knew it was
go be some madness on the inside when they finally made it in, after we already
on the inside. Hehe. First
things first .... a quick stop at the bar, which in an all inclusive is always
busy ... we repeat, always busy. This one was ample long and well staffed, so
two vodka and cran, and it's time to mingle. Now even though we dressed for slackness,
mankind walking round with some expensive equipment, so we was trying to stay
dry and clean, but we soon discovered that both were quite impossible. Once you
make peace with that fact, you can go on to enjoying your night. Well until you
inevitably get powder in yuh eye and yuh hand covered in paint, so you can't even
touch your face to get it out ... ouchy!! Private
Ryan and Selecta AJ were mixing things up very nicely, keeping the
tempo high and playing all kinds of music for the mixed crowd. The flyer said
Shurwayne Winchester performing live, and so said so done, the Soca Monarch
took to the stage to liven up what was already a pretty lively crowd. Decked out
in a lilly white vest, as if to tease the paint throwing partygoers by looking
crisp. Now, the
flyer did not say it, but the promoters even delivered a surprise performance
by Kevin Lyttle. Then it was back to the music, more drinks and more paint!!
As the night went, on we could see certain folks who had not paced themselves
taking up spots on the floor outside the main party area, either to recharge or
by the looks of some, to power down for good ... usually a sign that a good time
was had by all. --
