Panidad here ... I don't even know if I should confess this, but I was going to the KES in an acoustic set concert @ Molly Malone's on May 14th at 9PM, not realizing that it was really at 9PM American time!! So of course I leave my house at nine something ready with my TJJ gear and my magical camera. I text DJ Pelau to find out the exact address and he delivers the sad news that it was over... all over in a matter of 45 mins or so. GRRR!!!! All is not lost ... the next day they had a performance in Hollywood at Dragon Fly, a Reggae session organized by Jamaica Gold on Thursdays and Sundays. Low and behold, when I got there, everybody and their mothers told me how amazing the acoustic concert was the night before. Cheups... TJJ missed it, darn it! The DJ in Dragon Fly was playing mainly Dancehall tunes, but he would bust out a few Soca ones. Now, this place was paaacked! I saw lots of the people that attended the gig on Saturday (The Kes Live Tour @ Temple Bar). But there were lots of new faces! Cheeeese! Ms Triniti performed first, and the crowd responded very well. This club has another room with a DJ, yet most of the people were in the main room were the stage is. A few people looked very serious, almost like they were not enjoying themselves, but if you would look down their torso, their hips were saying a total different story. Ms Triniti had a different set of dancers with her but they knew the choreograph just as good as the girls from Saturday's performance at The Temple Bar. When Kees came on stage, he and his band delivered a great mix of Soca (like "Our Prayer", "The Way", "Push", "Right Dey") and Dancehall (like "Love Is Wicked" (Brick & Lace), "She's Royal" (Tarrus Riley), "Love & Affection" (Pressure). He sang songs imitating the voice of the original singers ... that was so awesome! The original Caribbean girl Nadia Batson accompanied the band on stage too and boy, that girl can carry a crowd! Senor Machel Montano was in da house chilling. Finally being treated like a normal human being (ignored by the populus), and not like the musical GOD that he is! Still TJJ had a duty to snap a shot (photo), and he was very cool about it! Te Quiero Machel! (oh sorry!) The ambiance was perfect, the size of the crowd and their response to the performers was divine darling! Perfect combo to intoxicate Kees and his band. They were both feeding off each other. We all seemed possessed! Somebody came on the side of the stage and said, "Nine minutes" ... and they all ignored the man. They played at least 15 minutes more, until the same man came back and it was all over from there. Kees didn't even get to introduce the members of the band. This closing of the clubs and bars at 2AM is no joke! That's it! It a rap folks!! Ciao... Panidad ==================================== |
