July is undoubtedly becoming the month for Mas band launches, as yet another band has chosen to showcase it’s costumes and theme for Carnival 2k9 a mere 5 months after T&T’s Carnival 2K8. Kaotic, the first of a new breed of bands for Carnival 2k9 gave masqueraders and Carnival enthusiasts a preview of their presentation for the road entitled “Life Unleashed”. For this presentation they transformed St. John’s Hall in P.O.S into Kaotic City.

Upon entry to the venue, the masses were greeted to familiar carnival elements such as the sounds of iron by the Point-Fortin Engine Room, the smell of bake and shark, alcoholic drink samples by Absolut Vodka and of course, the sounds of sweet Soca music provided by DJ Merry Perry.

The presentation kicked off at roughly 9.30 PM with male models dressed in silver headpieces and tights and covered in silver body paint, lining either side of the runaway. Much to their comfort (or discomfort) in being so scantily clad, these male models added a certain element of drama/entertainment to what was yet to come.

Kaotic’s 12 section presentation comprised of colours and themes intended to emphasize the overall theme of, “Life Unleashed”. Some examples of section names are as follows: “Heavenly Passion, Romance, Hot Oil and Beau Jolais”. Certain sections which received notable crowd responses were the aqua marine coloured “Aqua Abyss”, the appropriately red and gold coloured “Extreme Fury” and “Copia” (a silver and white, all female section, where every costume looks like a frontliner).

All 12 sections were displayed at the end of the presentation and I must make mention that this is my second band launch in a row where the models paraded the costumes at the grand finale to a 2008 Machel hit, this time “Conga Man” was the chosen track (I’ve said it before, you can’t miss with The Taipan of Soca).

Taking all into consideration, Kaotic’s band launch was indeed a successful event, drawing an eclectic mix of mas supporters. The TJJ team was definitely in good company, as we were in the presence of personalities such as Genesis mas band leader Ian McKenzie, Former Xtatik vocalist and Synergy front man Peter C. Lewis and T&T’s Olympic gold medalist Hasely Crawford.

Trini Jungle Juice sends out our gratitude to the Kaotic committee for their hospitality and congratulations on a smooth, flowing, successful presentation. To all you Carnival 2k9 mas hopefuls ... TJJ will be there to document how well you handle the “Kaotic Carnival”!!

Later will be greater, Damian for TJJ
