Most holiday weekends here in South Florida are chuck full of parties and events for one to fill their entire weekend. However, there is usually few (if any) events for those amongst us that prefer more Soca at our parties. The guys at sixAxis Ent. took it upon themselves to help fill this void for the July 4th weekend, and why not? The 1st Saturday of the month fell smack dab in the middle of it! Now when you're doing a monthly event, it's kind of difficult to make it different from month to month. Sure you can change the name - and maybe the theme - but it's the same party. That was not the case for this party, as the promoters reached all the way to Trinidad & Tobago and plucked out none other than everyone's favorite superhero Hypa Hoppa and Radioactive soundsystem to come thru and mash up the dance. Hence it was aptly named "The Hypa Active Episode". So for this night, you know we were there bright and early, front and center, with our pre-sold tickets already in hand (comp'd of course ). As we arrived at Sosta Lounge we saw that the guys had gone all out and once again blocked off the sidewalk outside the Lounge to create more space, turning the place into an indoor/outdoor venue. There was no line at this point, so we entered easily and saw a few folks chilling outside, with some ladies taking advantage of the couches and lounge chairs. We peeked inside and C.I.Dee Sound was on the set getting the folks warmed up. There was a bar setup outside as well, so we had drinks in hand before we even make a step inside. For those of us that arrived early, we were the lucky ones to receive a gift bag courtesy of VP Records with some sampler CDs. Nice, nice ... we like free ting too!! Just after 1am, Major Links took over and the crowd was starting to grow. Everybody holding back, waiting to get hype. Then at about 1:45pm, a buzz goes thru the crowd and we could see a bright orange shirt making its way thru the crowd as Hoppie had entered the dance. Of course, there was no way for him to get from the door to the DJ set without having to greet loads of folks on the way. There were many new faces on the night, obviously brought out by the fact that they had not heard Hoppie & DJ Dane play since the last time they followed the truck on the road Carnival Tuesday with TRIBE. DJ Dane begins to plug in, but Hoppie ent waiting for that! He grabs the mic and starts a roll call; "Anybody from Couva? Anybody from St. James?" and with that the crowd get hype one time and start to call out where they from too! Dane is plugged in and ready to go, and "Wining Season" start all over again in Sosta Lounge just after 2am. They hit them some Soca, some Reggae and even some Hip Hop. And who say Hypa is jus a hype man? He even take over the set and drop some tunes. Radioactive play straight through for over 2 hours till well after 4am when they finally started to get the wrap it up signal from management, when the lights started to come on. Folks bawl when they announced last song, and being the consummate professionals, they obliged them with two more for the night and sent everyone home smiling and singing. Well we should not say home nah, because as is the trend with FRIENDS, partygoers don't go home when the party done ... they does just move outside and lime by the cars, some eating from the secret stash of boil corn that does only seem to appear after the fete done! A good time was had by all, and we are sure some of these new faces will return for the "Summer Tabanca Episode" in August. - Party McFly ==================================== |
