One of the official meanings of Euphoria is "A state of great (usually exaggerated) elation" and with Machel Montano HD in town for one night only, we can almost guarantee that it was the thoughts and feelings of everyone who planned to attend - TJJ included! Held at a new and as we Trini's would say "bougeee" location, Paramount Event Theatre in Woodbridge, TJJ arrived on the scene around 10:30pm with FREE parking yeah boy ... FREE! So you know the scene already! People were already getting their drink on, gearing up for one of the biggest shows in Toronto. With no time to waste - it was time to get down to business TJJ style - lights, camera, action! Leh we go! Place was nice, nice, NICE! Security was fast and efficient and most of all, despite the whole chit/drink set up the bar was efficient and you know once we see Johnnie limin with Goose, party will be even nicer! (wink, wink). The place was filling out nicely with early comers already claiming their spots up front and centre stage, ready to feel "De Heat"! For those that purchased V.I.P tickets, a dedicated room overlooking the entire ballroom and in true V.I.P fashion were provided with complimentary fruits & vegetable dips and of course their own bar. Nice touch! They even had a Red Carpet entrance ... waaaaaaays! As fetegoers anxiously waited for the show to begin, DJ Chief, Dr. Jay & D'Enforcas tore up the place with some serious soca & reggae chunes and with E Man holdin down de mic we were good to go! Boi, when we say it was real pressure to do we wuk! "Look de bumpers want tuh roll roll roll!" Bumpers was rolling - left, right, in front and of course behind! Wheyyyyy ... party was on - vibes was sweet! Some professional dancers took stage to entertain the crowd with the latest and greatest reggae moves, de TJJ crew eventually ketch we-selves from the winin' and managed to hold down Patrice Roberts (click here to read) & Zan (click here to read) for our exclusive "5 Minutes With" interviews. So with that on lock, it was time to catch the main event. Machel Montano burst on the stage and the crowd went into ah frenzy! Oh My geeeddddd ... it was "Wining Season" and with Caribana around the corner the season was certainly here! A sea of flags, rags waved enthusiastically in the air each wave representing the "Euphoria" that was in the air! But wait, even better ... it was time to get "Delirious", and literally everyone was jumping up delirious! Oui pappa, it was madness!!! Oh wait, we meant "Jamishness" ... LOL! Patrice Roberts then came on stage and began "Wukkin Up" and peltin plenty "Thunder Waist" and Farmer Nappy was "Chippin" across the stage causin only "Wildness" in de crowd! Zan sang from "The Heart of a Man" and said de Toronto crews repped why theyd "Always Be" de besssss! Now we cant forget The Calypso King, The Mighty Sparrow, who performed "Congo Man", which was followed by the legendary David Rudder. "Where we come from ... ah tell yuh is Oil and Muuuuusic!" Wooooi!!!! All de "Trinis 2 de Bone" were feeling it breddah!!!!! Yuh had rel bess performers in de building!!
We continued jammin all night long, swaying from side to side as we tried to get we wuk done ... lol! Zen night club owner and business man, Johnny Soon, was also in de building and as he overlooked the party from the V.I.P section upstairs. Yuh could see the smile on his face watching the crews shoutin out the islands they were from! The DJs kept the vibes going once the performances were over and fetegoers continued to enjoy the vibes. The TJJ crew wrapped up our last photos around 2:45am for the night (with de TJJ TV crew still busy at work), and with we head in a frenzy, we started to "Tempa Wine" out de front door. With rhel Trini vibes in we blood, we headed straight to Leons truck and bought ah bake & shark. Although it wasnt de real ting, it was definitely the cherry on top ah we ice-cream ... lol!
We out on de roooooooooooooad,
we gone with we frenz... |
