When yuh reach ah fete after 3 in de morning and de fete ram cram with people, you know that fete is off the chain. Duty called that night, and I didn't leave work until almost 3 in de morning. I was disappointed just thinking I may not reach de fete, so ah say to myself, "Lemme pass by just in case the party still going on." I already missed out a house lime hosted by SM (South FL TJJ crew) earlier that night, so something gotta give. This venue was at a Ranch on West Okeechobee Rd, which for some of us residents here in South Florida is out in the boonies. However, this was the best venue for a party of this caliber because dem DJ's could play music as loud as they wanted without police coming and ordering them to lower the volume or shut the party down. As I got to Okeechobee Rd, by the entrance, ah notice a line up of cars and people still coming too ... and here I was thinking I was late. So ah grab a quick park and walked over to de entrance, where TJJ was highly recognized, so there were no waiting. Niceness. This was an outdoor venue which was very elegantly decorated with white tents, large benches, two large screens displaying photographs from the last Connection Royale event, and lighting for so. First stop, the Bar! If you see bars all around de place, so there really was no waiting for a drink.. and we talkin' bout all top shelf liquor, and you know it's very rear for a bar to be stocked with coconut water after a certain time! All I have to say is.. I stay until the end of de fete and coconut water didn't run out!! Kudos to the promoters. The last Connection Royale was an all white event, but this time it was an all black affair ... hence the name "The Black Pearl". Mostly everybody was wearing black, my favorite sliming colour ... you ladies know what I'm talkin' bout!! And bwoy, the ladies did in fact represent that night in their black attire. I did notice some fellas who came out in suit and tie which added to the party's elegance. Next stop ... Food!! Ah squeezed meh way through de crowd to get over to de food tent, and ah when I reached ah get confused. I didn't know where to start!!! There were sautéed shrimp, scallop potatoes, stew fish, grilled chicken, raw oysters, curry goat, fried chicken, roast beef, ackee & saltfish, vegetable dishes and salads ... lawd have mercy, what a spread! Yummy!! Richie D was on the set, playing some Mavado and Munga which had the crowd getting on bad and singing along the lyrics. Dance finished around 5:30 in de morning. These promoters definitely know how to throw a bess fete!! Still
craving de sautéed shrimps, ==================================== |
