THE KING OF POP IS COMING!!!", were the words played on air and advertised throughout T&T for quite some time. And everyone was suspicious as to who this The King was? Finally, it was revealed that international pop sensation Chris Brown would be sharing the stage with The King of Soca Machel Montano, and this would be a first time clash of the two different genres of music (soca & pop). Sorry DC Carnival posse, no ACDC this year! A month before the actual concert, 96 #1 and bMobile held competitions for folks to win tickets or to get discounted entry to the concert. We at TJJ were fortunate to gain access to the much publicized event, even though it was a bit on the last minute side. Say wha, we inside!! The love we have for our viewers! Arriving around 6pm, we gained access (with ease) to the entire venue, except backstage ... no scene. The venue was divided into three (3) sections, which started from the back Green section, where tickets ranged from $200TT-$300TT; the middle Gold section, where tickets ranged from $400TT-$500TT; and front stage Platinum section, where tickets ranged from $700TT-$800TT. The venue also contained non-alcoholic and alcoholic bars, since this concert catered for all ages. That's right, this was an experience for the entire family! Chilling out for a while and enjoying the ambiance, the time soon came to unleash the first king - Machel Montano HD. Hyping up this crowd of all ages, Machel and his HD band gave an outstanding performance, with songs of past and present, also touching on his new release for the Crop Over 2008 season Push Bumper with Patrice Roberts also delivering her song on the same riddim, Lookin Hott. The HD performance lasted for about 90 minutes. After Machel and his band, the 96.1 DJs played some of 2008s current chart-toppers as they prepared the audience for the highlight performance of the night, king of Pop Chris Brown. At exactly 8:30pm, Brown hit the stage in an explosive manner causing everyone to anxiously push their way straight to stage side, even climbing on the ramps. Chris Brown aka CB performed all his hits such as "No Air", "Forever", "Wall to Wall" and "With You", together with his famous street dancing alongside his entourage. His repertoire even included surprise Soca and Dancehall selections from artistes such as Tony Matterhorn and Iwer George. The man certainly has a lot of love for the Caribbean! His performance lasted for about 60 minutes, leaving the crowd begging for more. The night for the underage ended at 10:00pm, but for the grown and sexy, the after party at Zen was the obvious destination. Thanks to the 96.1 WEFM family for taking care of us. - Young Juice |
