“So yuh wake up in the morning and yuh just realize, Carnival come back again!!!” Iwer’s lyrics never sounded so profound ... not only are we already well into 2008, but Trini Carnival 2K8 is right around the corner! Appropriately, it was time to pay our friends at Island Elite and Big Phat Fish the first visit for 2008 for their pre-carnival warm-up!

Now even though your TJJ reporter hadn't been to BPF for a few months, we were happy to see that this monthly South Florida staple had lost none of its luster. Upon arriving just before 1AM, the line outside was sizable, but after a quick check by the door, we were on the inside with no hassle. Now the setup inside had changed somewhat, with the party being separated into two distinct areas. The west side of the venue, closest to the main entrance was now the primary dance floor, with the east side, normally the hot and sweaty-get-on-bad-area, closest to the open air bar, being converted to more of an outdoor lounge type atmosphere. There were couches, bottle service, beautiful people .... hold on ... is BPF we in or South Beach??!!

Seriously, change is not always a bad thing, and the new configuration definitely enhanced the party vibe. It was almost like being in two different venues at the same time! The main attractions of BPF had not changed though - great music, sweet vibe and woman for so! The DJ's kept the party flowing with a wicked baptism of new 2008 Soca. The session was on fyah!!! Thanks to folks at Island Elite for giving us a sweet send off for Trini Carnival. TJJ will be back in the house for the post-Carnival bram.
