Velvet Concepts brought their special touch to 51 Degrees lounge on the night
before the Republic Day Holiday. The party themed 'Identify' was intended to be
a celebration of the patriotic holiday in true Trini style. Once again Black Velvet
delivered all that was promised! I'm
assuming people were moving late since they had no work the next day, so by 12:30
AM when we arrived, the scant crowd was still hovering close to the walls. Of
course some were patronizing the bars, getting their drink on in anticipation
of good times to come. An hour later however the club was filled with Black Velvet's
crowd of typically enthusiastic feters. In
honour of the anniversary of our Country being a Republic, it was only fitting
that Black Velvet pay tribute to our recent Olympic heroes. Members of the Trinidad
and Tobago Olympic athletic team including 100m Silver medallist Richard 'Torpedo'
Thompson were saluted as they continued to celebrate their victorious performance
in Beijing, VIP style. The
night before a holiday always has more vibe than any other and this night was
no exception. The DJs kept the party swinging with all the latest, while the gals
and guys flexed out amid the red, black and white décor. Radioactive's
Hypa Hoppa took to the set around 3am, and continued selecting hot tunes
and even mixed it up with a pop/alternative/old school rock & roll session
that had patrons singing along at the tops of their lungs. It was definitely one
of those nights when the DJs could do no wrong (and they didn't) cause the crowd
was dancing to everything. By
the time we left around 4:00 AM, the party was still going strong and no doubt
went on into the wee hours of the morning. Happy
Republic Day T&T from all at TJJ. Teekay
