It was 12:30AM on a school night and so far ah was successful getting up the stairs, having a shower and sneaking into bedroom. I was proud of meh James Bond techniques. Just as ah was getting comfortable in the bed under the duvet, ah hear the voice ah was dreading shout, “Where de @~%&$*!! Yuh was?”

Ah respond one time in fear.... “Ah went ah River Lime!”

She get up, turn on the light, watch meh in meh eye and say, “Ah suppose it was down by the Thames, yuh forget we living in blasted ENGLAND!!”

“Gal is true! Doh blame me, blame Babash! Is dem who do it!”

And so yuh boy had to start explain, de Babash River lime that was held in Arch Angel Kensington. Listen, she could not believe the only thing that was missing from the lime, was the river water!!

From the time we enter the club, which only a short walk away for the tube station, yuh could smell the sweet aroma of the Caribbean food. I came directly from work around 7:00PM. There were already a number of people there. The atmosphere was nice, relaxing and buzzing with conversation as people was eating and mingling. The entrance was only £10.00 and that included a plate of food.

I was really interested in the food and didn't take long to duck some people and get over to the serving area. Hehe. There were 3 ladies dishing up plates of wild meat with steam provisions, stew peas and green salad. As ah join the line ah was looking around and people was stuffing the face without care .... even licking their fingers. The meats were rabbit, venison and curry duck. They were well cooked and tasty. When ah went back for meh container to go home ah make sure and say, “bless the chef!”

To make matters better ah wash down meh food with a cold bottle of Carib, the promoters, ensured that it was in stock at the bar. After the numbers started to grow and people eat, small talk (and belch), Babash turn up the music, as they do at ah proper river lime. With the amount of food ah had in meh, ah had to move meh waist little bit to let it go down in the corners. The DJs, Vendetta Sound and Che in de Mix, played some hot chutney sessions. Ah feel like ah was back in Trini down by Caura River with Rajesh and Boysie! The crowd was mature after work clientele and they loved the vibe, jamming down to the session. It was no ultra big crew of people in the place, but the size was right for the venue and occasion. Yuh was not like ah dam solider, cah raise yuh hand from yuh side!!

We eventually got out of there about 11:30PM. It was a SWEET LIME ...... it was worth sleeping on the sofa ..... steups. Is ah lucky thing ah didn't mention that I had bought home some wild meat, because, I eat that when I get throw out the bedroom!
