Well it's carnival time again in Hotlanta, which means it's "Wining Season" again and everybody here will be getting ah sweat during this Memorial Weekend ... bet on it!!! What's evident to TJJ, is that, True and Otis from Krushmore and Caribbean Vibes respectively, know how to set de scene for all of ATL. The Atlanta J'ouvert 2008 took place at the Atrium nightclub on Friday May 23rd. With the club setting split, there was enough room for about 2,000 people combined - one room catering for a reggae audience and the other for the soca audience. By 1AM, the Atrium was packed - inside and outside. And when we saw the lines outside, there was no way we were planning on standing in that line and miss all de action inside. It was long lines round the corner, the car park was filled to the brim and cars were parked all down by the main road. "Excuse me miss ... excuse dey boss ... gimme ah small pass dey .... sorry for mashing yuh toe lady!!" And after all dat, we reach by the front door. We did the security check and were quickly on the inside. Just imagine ... 2 Rooms, 12 DJs split. The Reggae Room was manned by DJs Massive B, Juggla, John Wayne, Mix Master David and Deathzone. After a while, the reggae dancers took over the floor and it was every style you could think of, especially with the 'Who Dem Crew' showing off dey skillz .... right Mr. Rey Rey? The Soca Room as expected, had some of de hottest Soca DJs - DJ Choice One, DJ Hottness & Tony Tempo representing for the hometown and NY's Party Rocker Back to Basics (B2B) to name a few. With Sadiqua and the V.I. Massive in full attendance, alongside the Dominican crew, the Bajan Invasion and the Trini Posse all with their respective flags, the Soca Room resembled a true West Indian Carnival J'ouvert - minus de mud! Even Machel Montano and his HD band made an appearance to promote Carnival Eruption, where they were scheduled to perform the following night. Back to Basics complimented by one of the sweetest voices on the radio today, Giselle D Wassi One, had the large crowd literally wining in the palm of their hands. With Giselle on the mic and B2B turning out the mixes, the Soca Room probably had one of the biggest jams for ATL Carnival 2008. Even Machel tek ah lil' wine on someting in dat party ... and de 'Scandalous Crew' did not mine helping him out. But if yuh really know Machel, it was really him helping dem wine. Even de winer girl from Atlanta Carnival Welcome Party on Thursday at Club 426, was there and was having ah ball. By 5:30AM, when the lights went on, Giselle and B2B refused to quit playing and the die hard soca lovers would not let them stop either. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. And it was about that time. But guess what? Iz Carnival and B2B decided to roll with the TJJ Crew to the DePanyard for the DePanyard 8th Outdoor Jouvert Jam, where most of the Soca Room fete-go'ers ended up anyway.
