Well the TJJ Notting Hill 2008 Fete-lympics® come and gone, and Team TJJ took home gold medals in all events ... that's how we does do it!! Just get what we want ... EXCEPT SLEEP!! Yes, we still cannot take any sleep, because after the games over last weekend, it continues with this Independence Day celebration and Carnival After Party. We haven't seen this party in our annual UK calendar of events before (we recall Bazoodee Entertainment throwing their independence bashment last year "Red"), but this year we have seen so many new promoters and new events on the scene. Let's hope this trend continues because things are now getting exciting in jolly ol' London!! Gyal Farm UK and Dynasty Promotions had a couple of events before this, like "Sex in the City" and they each had their sections in Next Level PoisonUK in the Notting Hill Carnival parade on Monday, so they looking to continue going as their people calling out for more, and capitalise on the fact that not much else going on this weekend ... except for house limes and BBQs. So it is back at The Worship, a now favourite venue for the season, but problem is that we didn't hear about this fete till late, and TJJ reps all seem to have something else going on. The outer-international crew fly back out - Daddy Juice (Chooks), ma girl Eljon (Mix Juice) and Bajan Nick (ah still looking for him since Carnival Monday) ... they all gone. And we had to go to a couple of those after Carnival house limes and BBQs - and this Saturday was actually sunny - first time in months and last time till next April. So what we trying to say is that yes, we rolled in there a bit late after all said events... and it turned out that after no confirmations, 4 TJJ reps ended up there too!! When we entered we saw all the Trini flags hanging and tassa and other musical instruments lying around - a good reminder of the theme. Most times, Independence Day passes up here with most of us not even realising it. So I guess we missed the show, but the party was downstairs and we could here the music pumping from down there. Going downstairs, one rep already hard at work (well sorta). The dance was nice. It had a good few people around, but yuh could see that they were bunfrom the Carnival, as nobody was really jammin. They were happy just liming, doing a lil' dance now and then. Gladiators were spinning with Barry from Jugglers at the time, and the music was decent. It was mostly dub for a while and the vibe was cool, but when they throw on the first big soca tune, the crowd livened up a little bit. Not much action, so not many shots... and good thing too, because we had some serious camera trouble. No, no camera man curse this time, just a cursed camera!! All sorts of blinking lights and the button not clicking, people standing and posing until their smile turn into "but I ent see no flash!!" So is to the camera service shop and back again ... hopefully a rest weekend in between! |
