ONE
FETE 2007 "The Biggest and Best 'One' for the Year" This is how partygoers described Witco's One Fete last Sunday at the Queen's Park Oval as it was definitely the biggest All Inclusive fete thus far for Carnival 2k7. And with a price tag of a $225-$250, partygoers got much more value for their money, leaving everyone in sheer 'Bliss'.
The event was organized by TRIBE management team who are no strangers to creating 'Bliss' for partygoers as they transformed the Oval into a well organized festival city of food and drink stalls catering for the every need of feters who included may local who's whos'.
Oh gosh! Talk about food and again at such a modest price tag, feters were treated with a delightful array of Chinese, Indian and Arabian selections and a very popular pork ribs and barbecue wings stall. In addition to these mouth-watering dishes the promoters added a West Indian Flare to the menu with novel items such as souse, dumplings, bake and buljhol and hops with black pudding. Although there were long lines at the popular food stalls given the large amount of patrons at the event, the lines constantly moved at a rapid pace.
There was no stickin' at the bars which included all the premium drinks of your choice that were always never more than a minute away. And we are more than happy to say, actually ecstatic to say that most drinks including premium drinks lasted all night long which left 'we drinkers' smiling all the way home. Hmmm.... Arrive Alive! folks.
Now down to the real reason for a fete: The Entertainment, One Word: "Explosive"
The big man in the business himself Neil Iwer George started the explosion with a riveting performance early into the night which just prepared the crowd for what was yet to come later into the night. Backed by KES the Band, Iwer gave one of his better performances dipping into the archives and delivering some of his retro hits that had feters singing along while they jumped and waved to his tunes. He then totally 'mashed up' the place in typical Iwer style with his hit this year "Fete After Fete," stamping his mark on the race for Soca Monarch and Road March. Maximus Dan then came on after and kept up the tempo with his usual spirited performance which was well received by the crowd. KES the Band with Nadia Batson, themselves also had a great night delivering some of their own hits and doing some cover which all added to the delight of the patrons.
The Iron Man Shurwayne Winchester stormed the stage after Kees and his band ended their set and immediately threw the crowd into a frenzy. He called moka jumbies and fire blowers to the front of the stage while he performed all his road march and other hits with the audience lapping up every moment of his performance. He also literally 'Opened the Gate' to another Road March and Soca Monarch crown with the performance of his C2k7 hit "Open The Gate".
Comedian Rachel Price was the hostess for the night and often had the crowd in stitches with her normal 'Trini stupid ole talk' and antics. One thing we must say though, she was looking real good man!!! Hmmm.... 'ah wonder if we had ah little too much drinks boy??? No scene!
Patrons were also exposed to a wonderful artistic aerial fabric performance by seven-time US national champion in sports acrobatics and female athlete of the year Soleil's Christine Van Loo, which was well appreciated by the crowd.
Next up was the Soca Goddess herself Destra Garcia and the big band Atlantik. Destra and her band delivered an intense high energy performance which included all her recent hits and her hits of yesteryear keeping the now totally charged up crowd fully energized. Denise Belfon appeared on stage with Atlantik where she showed off her bicycle riding skills to the thrill of the male patrons and curiosity of the many female feters. When we say skills we mean real skills... that woman should be given a wining degree or better yet a masters, the woman was wheeling and all. All we have to say is laaaaawd Denise yuh good girl !!!
All through the night partygoers were treated with a colourful display of shapely dancing models inside illuminated high-rise coloured tubes located at both sides of the stage and throughout the venue which was definitely light on the eyes and added to the festive mood of the night.
Destra and Atlantik just set the stage for the climax of the night, which was the feature event, none other than the Tipan of Soca himself, his majesty Machel Montano and HD band. Talk about your money's worth! And believe us, Machel and his band did not disappoint at all once again! His arrival on stage had all the beautiful ladies running towards center stage. Oh! Did we mention the amount of truly beautiful, totally lovely Trini women at the fete..... my Laaaaawwwwd! Anyway that is whole other story, let us not get sidetracked.
Back to Machel Montano HD. Machel appearance on stage caused the now mammoth crowd to erupt into a crazy frenzy with him unleashing to a welcoming audience an arsenal of hit selections. He sent the crowd into uproar with his recent selections "One More Time" and "Higher Than High" (which also happens to be the 2 most listened to Soca songs currently on Trini Jungle Juice) proving that once Machel is at your fete.... it bound to score!! Montano also released to feters yet another infectious single titled "Jumbie", which is definitely hit bound and will be another contender for the Road March. Machel might actually be competing again his own self yes!! The climax of his performance however was when he was joined on stage by Patrice Roberts for their C2k7 hit "Light It Up" which sent patrons into sheer ecstasy and definitely made it clear that they plan on defending their Road March thrown for 2007, and from the look of things thus far they will easily being doing so!
All and all, we must say that it was an All Inclusive fete that no true Carnival feter would have wanted to miss, where partygoers got much more value for the price they paid for entrance. So all you unfortunate ones who missed out, be sure to cop your tickets early for next year because this was truly the ONE! |
