Is an after work lime and we heading down to the Worship Bar in Moorgate, London. Scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm, we storm in about 7:30pm... I think that was good time. Having been here before for the previous and foremost Babash Event "Phoenix Rising - The Launch Party", this evening for this particular event we were not upstairs, we were downstairs in the basement. Yes, Worship is a two level club, with a sexy spiraling stair case I must say. Another unique layout, there was one main bar which encompassed the large dance floor, an elevated area (where the food was ... we would come to that later) and finally, there was a room next to the dance floor curiously decorated and decked out with couches. Anyway, after gauging the venue and purchasing my Red Bull (yeah, no Guinness tonight ... don't worry, next event I will be level under mi Guinness!!!), I proceeded to head over to the food area. On the elevated area, D' Corner Shop was serving up the wild meat ... the real reason why we come down in the first place. It was a chit system, but I wasn't too hungry when I reach, so was just liming until more people started coming and there was rumour that food running out. When I reach up the front of the line, I was given a choice of rabbit or deer, then later they was duck roti and potato roti for the vegetarians. The only problem is that I was hoping to taste all ah dem... ok, so they weren't the wildest of meats, but it was different different and lots of people never had them before - so it was good, but we woulda really like to try everyting! See what allya could do next time nah! And from the little survey we did from people around, although they were thinking like me and wanted more, whatever they got was good. So D' Corner Shop ... BIG UP YUH STATUS!!! And the wild meat part was definitely a hit!! On the 1s and 2s at this time was Vendetta Sound. Quite a unique selection was being played from Soca to Dancehall ... back and forth ... mostly oldies, which is good because the tunes from back in the days is what has set a foundation for the music we hear today. Minutes to nine, and the main act for the night was scheduled to perform. Collin Bell from the infamous band "Max Bit U", who is now a solo artiste, presented himself with his guitar and back up music from Vendetta. From his crowd encouraging performance, Mr. Bell sang songs such as Oasis' "Wonder Wall", U2's "With or Without You", Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up" and even Proclaimers' "500 Miles". Mind you, these songs were done all with accompanied lyrics by Vendetta Sound key man in London - Mr. Lawrence aka Deso. Sweet Jesus ... hahahaha ... from singing Machel Montano's part to "With Or Without You" (1999 hit with Walker) to just singing the words "Lord Have Mercy" ... Deso was like the back up singer. Mr. Bell also performed one of his solo pieces entitled "In This Love". An acoustic song with lyrics all about love, love and more love ... a good song for the lovers out there ... didn't really see many lovers in this crowd. The crowd was definitely into Bell's performance whether it be from clapping, singing the words to the songs or just moving their feet and chilling to the sound of live music. We give Mr. Bell's performance an eight (8) out of ten (10) ... he is worth it!! Quite an eccentric fellow compounded with a very cartoon-like performance. So the live music was a hit despite the minor technological trauma that occurred. At the end of the performance and after a couple more Red Bulls, the All Mighty Sound took over the 1s and 2s and began the party session of the "after work lime". We bubbling to Dancehall and Calypso ... more Dancehall though and to be honest, it was actually conscious vybz and mostly old school. No new music.... none!!! Yay!!!! Che in the Mixx came on at about 11:00pm to close off the night and by this time people left already. However, the patrons from upstairs decided that upstairs was boring so they came downstairs for a lil' shake up batty session as Che was running level Dancehall and bruck out tunes. People were bubbling ah must say. Even the two people who just met, were socially wining on each other. The Babash crew meanwhile was inside the small room posing for numerous photos (photos 57-59). At midnight the event was over, and in a nutshell, it was a real mellow nice. Smallish crowd, but the deejays were tremendous, the food was delightful and Mr. Bell was most encouraging on the mini-stage. It had a real bess cloak room girl too ... hahahaha! Babash, ah will see allyuh at Meetings (Oct 4th)... it supposed to have a nice cast and an interesting story line. So yeah, Trini Jungle Juice in that!!! Amiel
