The US Embassy Local Staff presented its 5th Annual All Inclusive Carnival Fete. After a brief hiatus from the Country Club, the fete returned home this year. Kicking off at 4pm, patrons and TJJ were treated to premium drinks and Indian dancers upon entry. While getting to the venue was somewhat difficult due to Pan Semis in the Savannah at its new location, and WASA conducting maintenance work along Cipriani Blvd, there was a still a steady stream of patrons entering the venue throughout the evening. As usual, the local Embassy staff did a spectacular job at both decorating and layout. Ample bathroom facilities for both men and women were available and easily identifiable. Both a fire and police presence was at the venue, which served to make patrons feel safer. There was also a wide variety of savory dishes available for sampling. Apart from the traditional bake and shark, there were various preparations of beef, chicken, lamb, shrimp, salads and lasagna all available tantalizing taste buds of many. By 6:30 PM, the evening's entertainment kicked off with the usual stellar performance by the Point Fortin Engine Room, followed by a variety of this year's Soca hits performed by front line singers Blaxx, Olatunji and Trini Jacobs who were all backed by Roy Cape All Stars. Tunes such as "Dutty" and "Get Wild" definitely got the vibes pumping. Michelle Sylvester was the next act followed by Maximus Dan. Though a small stage for such a venue, those who were outside enjoying the plethora of food available made quick tracks to the dance floor when Iwer took to the stage. If that was not enough to get those who were not in the Carnival mood ready, the next act surely did. Enter Denise Belfon, popularly referred to as Denise "Bicycle Wine" Belfon for the 2007 season. Who did not know "Saucy Wow" before surely learnt where the saucy came from. What ah performance, especially the famous "Bicycle Wine" performed by Denise and Spontaneous.... the energy was high as patrons got into the act. Kudos to the young man from the audience who had the courage to participate with Denise. He became the lucky winner of an Angostura hamper. It must also be mentioned that during these performances a showing of some of the sections from the 3 time large Band Of The Year "Trini Revelers" were on display. As the evening wore on, if one thought the line up of artists was over, the night had just begun. Synergy 2006 Soca Star Fireball put in a guest performance doing his hit "All I Want", which also stirred up a frenzy with the crowd. There was then roughly an one hour on stage intermission before the lady of the night, Ms. Destra Garcia and Atlantik came on putting in one of her energetic performances at 9:45 PM. With a rendition of both old and new, the crowd just begged for more. Did we mention food before??!! With ample amounts, folks got servings all de way up to the near end. Worry not though, with the way patrons were jumping and waving all evening long, we are certain that nearly every single calorie was burned off. Ladies we know Monday and Tuesday coming real quick and you all watching de figure and those extra pounds!! :-) The well stocked bars were still going strong by 10:30 PM too. What a night! Within the last half hour, the sweet sounds of Tassa stole the attention of patrons. Some even began a wine out competition to see who could roll that waist de best. As folks gradually began making their way out, so did we. Well with a change in the venue, access to and from your car was a lot easier considering that we didn't have to catch a shuttle. Also with the venue being a bit smaller, it made for a more intimate experience. Well until the 6th annual, this is TJJ saying have a safe and fun Carnival 2K7.
