It was 25 degrees, reeaal snow and ice on the ground in Brooklyn when TJJ arrived at The Base nightclub around 12:15am for "Soca Injection" with headliner Destra and Atlantik. Of course in true BK style, folks were just coming in. To our surprise, the music was not pumping hard as usual, but soon got off to a great start.... with Soca of course.

The crowd began to arrive slowly but surely and before we knew it, around 2am, the place almost ram. Folks definitely wasted no time in purchasing "set ups" (favourite bottle with ice bucket) and securing their spots on the dancefloor. And speaking of drinks, they were serving them "Soca Strong!!" Thumbs up! By the time ah had ah drink and a half, the fete was in full swing..... Foreign Bass mashin up with a remix of "Jumbie" and "Lean With It Rock With It".... only in NY will DJ's find a way to link up the Hip Hop and Soca. WICKED!

It was around 3am (no lie) when MC Wassy introduced the 1st artist to the stage. Direct from Trinidad, 2006 Synergy Soca Star Fireball got things going with hits like "What I Want" and "No Chorus". He even humoured the crowd with his KFC jingle to "What I Want". 2006 Miami Soca Monarch champion and BK's own Jason Benn proceeded to hype up the crowd with his 2002 song "The Boat Ride Song (Anthem)". He then sang "Eat De Saltfish", which had everyone laughing cause all Jennifer want him to do is eat she saltfish. Lyrikal was next up. He got started on a Soca vibe with songs like "De Hunter" (2006), but gave feters a touch of reggae vibes to end his set, which got a nice response.

Then it was Soca Diva Destra Garcia time to shine. Decked out in a velour black baby hoodie and shorty shorts accented with gold side zippers and a wicked gold shoe game, Destra took the stage! She started with a few of her classic hits then took everyone to the next level with "Tremble It". Man, speakers rockin, people sweaty and seemed to never stop jumping, waving and wining! Hit after hit followed. My girl even switched out of her gold peep toe stilettos into a pair of fashionable gold ballet flats and it was MAS after that!!! Talk about crowd participation! Ah think ah got a flag upside my head in all the excitement! Of course it would not be a fit if an invitation was not extended for the ladies to come and test the band members in a "I Dare You" wine-off. C'mon Brooklyn ladies, next time yuh have tuh do badder than dat! Great try though. Miss lady in de red mini..... we see yuh! Well after the mini show on stage it was back to Destra's strong voice tearing it up! It was 2007 hit "Last Lap" that had everyone drenched by the end. You go girrrlll!!! Atlantik, great sound! It was apparent from the disheveled clothing, smeared makeup and some hair do's that looked like they held on for dear life, that a great time was had by all. Special thanks to 229 Entertainment for having us.

Ah wouldn't even tell allyuh how ah nearly buss meh tail bout three times walking on de ice to my car in meh stiletto boots!!! Fuss ah cute! ;-)

Till de nex flex... Rae for de TJJ fam
