It's Carnival Friday in South Florida and the last stop in the TJJ 2007 Fetalotathon® is in full swing. The TJJ Blue team is heading to an old standard for Miami Carnival, Scruples Block-O. Suffice it to say, Scruples is the main course tonight but we already had appetizers, so we well primed and ready to see what Block-O has in store for us! There were some issues with the fundamentals last year due to what we think were growing pains. Would we be treated to the service and quality that we have become so accustomed to at Block-O? Let's head in and find out. TJJ rolled up on the venue at about midnight. Parking was easy and in very close proximity to the venue. Due to some drama at another event, we were told that the TJJ Red team was also in route to the Block-O. As usual, we had no issues at the front door and were assured that the Red team would also have no problems once they arrived. We got to give mad love to the Block-O management for that. So we on the inside now and the dance already ram. First litmus test is always the length of time it takes tuh get a drink. Now yuh have to go a couple times, in different spots to make sure it wasn't a fluke :-) This year Block-O pass this test with flying colors!! All night long, the wait was a minute or less. This makes for one sweet lime when yuh doh have to spend half the night at the bar. Even a few drizzles could not spoil the vibes when everybody well toasty. With Hollywood Sachy on the 1s and 2s, Mr. Slaughter got the live performances kicked off around 2 and properly buss up the dance. Slaughter and Washy Killa waved a TnT flag high as the crowd sang along to 2007 favourite "Spread The Love". Leon Coldero and 868 took the stage around 2:45am and did their thing. One of the highlights of their set was Uncle Sam (yes, the white boy) performance, who tore up the session with some big tunes and conscious reggae. By the way, if you go Bob Marley's on the City Walk in Universal Studio Orlando you sure to see Leon on stage! ;-) High Fidelity/Less Than Zero, House Arrest and DJ Rebel kept the fete in full swing. But, it was the combination of High Fidelity (Benny) and Hypa Hoppa (who was jus passin thru) that really kept the fete on a high after the stage performances. It was our first time seeing that combination, and they buss de dance! As though it was scripted, at the stoke of 4 o'clock the skies opened up signaling the end of the fete. The fete was scheduled to end at 4 but if it wasn't for that rain, we not sure how they was getting people to leave at that point, dance was going sweet! Rain or no rain we milk that lime to the last drop. Music was off but all that, meant was that it was time to get some food (big up to D Trini Spot for de ital food once again) and catch up with folks you ain't see all night. It's about 5am now, no sleep yet and we on to yet another event. Thanks to Irwin and the Block-O crew for taking care of the the TJJ fam as usual! We'll be in full force next year once again for sure, this one is a TJJ staple. p.s Happy Birthday to one of TJJ's very own, Shameen! The
Party Appraiser aka Sigma Juice for the TJJ fam. ==================================== |
