Date: Saturday 3rd February 2007 Location: Pier 1. Chaguaramas, Trinidad Promotions: Royal Band of Trinidad & Tobago (RBTT) Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery With some of the foreign Jungle Juice already in de country for the Carnival season, you dun know jus how 'jumbie' they are.... "If yuh say we goin and chase cobo on de Beetham we dey... we aint missin nuttin!!" So the TJJ crew was heading down Pier 1 again as it seems to be one of the major fete capitals for the C2K7 season. RBTT's 2007 fete "Passion for Soca" was the order of the day on this occasion. Now it seems like the norm that whenever an organization far less ah big corporation throws a fete, that it's an All-Inclusive event. Unfortunately this wasn't the case at RBTT's fete. We arrived a little before 1 AM and ran into the ending off of Central's premiere band Dil-E-Nadan's performance. After that rising Soca artist, Mr. Chucky came on and performed his 2k6 groovy Soca track "See You", followed by popular 2007 release "Turn Around". Large up the entire Socalypso Promotions crew! Shout outs to Soca artists Gailann and Maximus Dan on the inside as well. At 1:30 AM, Imij & Co. came on doing their usual repertoire of some oldies but goodies along with some popular 2K7 selections. Imij & Co. is one band that we love for their on stage chemistry, but in order to survive in today's competitive market, will need to start singing more of their own material and less of other artists. If you didn't already realize that this the new trend for Soca bands.... Machel Montano HD, Atlantik, Traffik and Asylum. Study it, you never go to a Janet Jackson concert, you don't hear Janet singing other folks songs, right? We'll talk more about this in our "Soca 2007 Insight" review, so look out for this. The lovable lunatic also joined in during Imij & Co. performance delivering his two big hits for the season... be sure to check our RBTT 2007 Coverage on TJJ TV. Crazy even got some back up support from the RBTT J'Ouvert folks as they all decked off in some colorful orange outfits. Imij & Co. wrapped up around twenty to three and at which time the DJs announced that the next band on stage was going to be Atlantik featuring Destra. Most folks limed around to take in Destra's performance, but 20 minutes later when we saw the security opening de gates and we not talking bout Shurwayne's big tune here, we got the hint that Atlantik probably wasn't going to make it. At half past three we packed up shop and went to catch a bite to eat from de good ole food vendors across de road. From our observations, we realized that people were catching on gradually that Destra was not going to make it. Well folks, maybe she did, maybe she didn't. As far as we know de odds were great and if the band did make it, most of the patrons would have been long gone by that time. Overall the event had a decent turn out, BUT the vibes however was somewhat lacking... most of the feters jus didn't have the Carnival Jumbie in them!! Big respect to MC Giselle De Wassi One for still doing her ting! RBTT should definitely take ah hint from Republic Bank this year and make the upgrade. An All-inclusive would definitely bring back a spark needed to make the fete a much more enjoyable and entertaining one... at least we feel so.
