a year it was, 2007 was certainly a memorable year for us here at Trini Jungle
Juice and we figured we had to go out in style, and as such, we were looking for
a nice upscale event to ring in the new year. Of course, on a night like Ole Year's
Night there are nuff choices. House parties seemed to be the order of the day,
but this outfit we bought was too nice for a house party, and by nice we mean
expensive!! ;-) There
were the traditional big bangers at lots of Miami clubs with their laundry list
of celebs like Gabrielle Union and Keisha Cole, but with those tickets costing
in the couple of hundreds of dollars, we figured both ladies would get a break
from us stalking them on this night. So eventually we decided on Jewel,
with Peter T and others on the set we knew the music would be on point.
Also, based on the event they had a the Havana Club the Friday before we knew
the venue would not disappoint; unless you afraid of heights 'cause the Havana
Club is on the 55th floor of the Wachovia building in Downtown Miami with a view
that make you think you can see all the way to Havana! The
venue for Jewel had been kept a secret all along, even those folks selling
tickets could only tell patrons where to park and that from there you would be
transported to the actual location. We must say it was a very pleasant surprise
when you got into the shuttle bus and taken the short distance to one of the condo
buildings in Aventura and instructed to take the elevators to the penthouse suite.
Wheeey! Posh thing! It was a 2 story clubhouse suite at the top of the building
with a balcony that wrapped around the side of the building for those brave enough
to venture out. We went out there, tried to take a few photos too, but as you
can see a shaky hand don't make for a clear picture. Entering
on the lower level is where the main dance floor was with the DJ off to the right
corner. Of course you know that at midnight we were still home getting dressed,
so we missed the champagne toast. Say what, we made a b-line for the bar which
in a free drinks you know is busy all night, but later on we found out they had
another bar upstairs on the outside patio. This was where the food was as well...
roti and curry goat and ting! Great drunk food!! Since
we upstairs now we stop by the less crowded bar - twice - and mingle with the
social folks catching a lil' fresh air outside. Back downstairs Gary Enforcement
was hotting up the place, and though everyone was dressed up real nice for the
new year, there was not too much posing in this party. Folks came out to dance
the night away, and dance they did! A good time was had by all, some had too good
a time... yuh know how it go with free drinks. Looking
forward to the next Jewel event, we hear a rumor it's in February... stay tuned.
