Big lime down at the Time Out at the Gap as most of the TJJ crew in BIM for the Crop Over festivities holding down an entire corridor of the hotel. 11:30pm and a live band jammin' so loud in the hotel's lobby that we couldn't help but to jook and go down low while brushing our teeth in preparation for our choice of fete for the night.... Glow Barbados. After getting some classic Bajan directions (inside joke)... we know that the fete close to a Chefette's. We pulled up to The Party Stand in St. Michael around 12:30am. VIP parking access.... check! All TJJ crew on the inside smoothly.... negative. There was a last minute mix up between the promoters, and although we're familiar with some of the Power x Four crew, it was our first time official dealing with them.... so we are confident that come next year, we will be saying "All TJJ crew on the inside smoothly.... check!" With everyone on the inside, it was time to frolic (we doh like the term "work" ... hehe). With about 90% of the patrons wearing white (all smallies rocking that sexy non-white outfit.... you're excused... yes Tracy, that includes you!), the fluorescent lights under the main tent did a decent job in creating that glow effect. To the back of the main tent was the VIP section - which was way to ram to really enjoy oneself - and there were a few flat screen TV's strategically positioned around the venue. Nice touch. Outside to the right of the tent (if facing the stage), had both the bar and food stations, taking up the entire stretch. This kept the lines moving at a decent rate, so we had our alco and grub in two two's. But wait, is that Iwer voice we hearing? 1:30am and the big man in the business was busy dismantling the Glow crowd.... Barbados really loves Iwer, and after mashing up de fete, we now see why. We hear all de classic Iwer George tunes, and you know at some point he gave de people wha they want... "Water" ... and we mean that literally as well. After Iwer, came Big Red and John Mahammeed reppin' Barbados and Guyana respectively. Big Red's "Que Sera" had partygoers shouting his catchy phase "If you doh like we... we doh like you neither!!" as he delivered an energetic performance. As for John Mahammeed.... his attire alone said it all, yes! A true true character. As he was attempting to demonstrate the "Curry Wine" to a young lady from the crowd, then he realized that she clearly didn't need any lessons, and before we knew it, we heard "Ah gone!" Barbados #1 Soca band, Krosfyah, was next to bless the stage. Edwin and Khiomal, together with newest addition to the band Adrian Dutchin (Guyana), did their best to wake up the crowd singing their classics together with new tracks off their 2007 album titled 'Fire Proof'. "Bashment Bacchanal" and "Where I Wanna Be" are two of our favourites tracks on the album. But it wasn't until Nard, Peter Ram and Lil' Rick hit the stage that Glow got a true injection of energy With perhaps the most comical stage performance for the season (also dressed to suit the role), Nard's "Tempo" is a definite crowd's favourite. His dance moves are classic too! However, without a doubt, it was Hypa Dawg that stole the show on the night. Lil' Rick was insane as he drove patrons at Glow white hot (read more)! After all live performances, it was back to the power of the DJ's. Fuss de music was going down soooo nice, we didn't leave Glow until the de sun rise. For some reason, when it's Carnival (no matter in which country), apparently it's against the TJJ law to reach home before the sun come up. Conga line and drink shots (AJ.... tsk tsk) at 6 in de morn.... gotta love it, yes! See you all on the beach in a couple hours... Chooks aka Daddy Juice ==================================== |
