The tag line says "Woman Is Boss", and most of us know that this is very true. Ah mean come on, a line up of predominantly female Soca artists with a few male token thrown in so the fellas can't complain about being left out of one of the biggest shows for the South Florida Carnival Weekend, and it hits time and time again. TJJ usually kick off our Miami Carnival Thursday with Girl Power (GP), but this year we had to attend the debut of TRIBE IGNITE Carnival Thursday fete reaching the shores of Miami, but you know ah crew mus make it to GP.

In past years, this event was held at the American Airlines Arena (AAA), in what to us was one of the better venues for the entire weekend. It was wide, spacious and easily accommodated the thousands of people that attended this Thursday night event. So we were a little disappointed to learn that for 2007 the venue was changed to Area 51, which is literally right down the road from the AAA. Although this venue is not as large, it still easily held the thousands that came out on the night.... we mean Alison Hinds looks sexy no matter where she performing! Patrons are also a lot closer to the main stage action at Area 51, so in some regards, the venue has it's advantages. The same Mrs. Hinds-Walcott was on stage revving up the crowd when we finally arrived after 1AM. Not sure if it was pure efficiency of the promoters or our lateness, but getting in was much easier than ever before.... no long lines, walk through the barricades, check the list and viola!

Now probably the 'bestest' thing about Area 51 is that they always setup what could possibly go down in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Longest Bar ever. The bar runs almost from the front to the back of the party, so usually you can find a spot to squeeze in and order your drinks, and we do mean squeeze in cause the bar does be busy all night long.

Being that is it South Florida we could not make it through the night without some rain, or as was the case this night, a few brief showers, and we do mean brief. By the time you walk to the side to find shelter and turn around the rain done stop already, like somebody upstairs was catching kicks. Of course for some, this lil' bit of rain was cause for more celebration and just added to the enjoyment.

As we have mentioned in the past, Girl Power is more of a concert than fete, so walking through the crowd, most everyone's attention is focused on the stage either taking in the current act like sexy Miss Destra Garcia or anticipating who would be next during the inevitable band change, which then gives MC Wassy time to keep the crowd entertained. Besides Alison and Destra, we enjoyed performances by Michelle Sylvester, Nadia Batson and Fayann Lyons. Naya George made a guest appearance with Destra & Atlantik to give everyone a "Last Lap" jump up.

At about 4:30am the TJJ crew exited GP, but the show was still going, so it seems that they were allowed to go beyond the normal ending time for parties here in South Fl, always a good thing. So it was probably bout 5am when Iwer made it on stage.
