GIRLS, GIRLS EVERYWHERE!!!!

That was the scene at the much-anticipated ISLANDpeople annual Girl Power fete which took place on Carnival Friday at Jenny’s on the Boulevard car park in uptown Port of Spain.

Planning to and shockingly, actually making our way down to the event early was definitely a great choice as it enabled us to thoroughly enjoy every aspect and minute of what can be described as one of our most enjoyable and truly thrilling C2K7 experiences. Because of our early movements we delightfully benefited from no traffic, easy parking and no long lines at the gate which added to the almost totally perfect night.

On entering the venue we were immediately taken back by the huge stage and well-organized VIP section with many bars, food stalls and seating to the back area well laid out. There was a long metal gate running from the center of the bottom of the stage to the back of the venue separating VIP from the general admission and ensuring that both sections were equally able to enjoy the super performances for the night. We must admit however that at first we were extremely skeptical of the VIP area actually filling out given the fact that it was such a large area almost on par with the general admission section. This was because as TJJ Fetealotathon® Red Team arrived (early for once, surprising ourselves and many others) there were much more people in the general section at the time while the crowd in the VIP was fairly moderate.

Well allyuh dun know that we had plan to take advantage of our early arrival by hitting all the food stalls hard one time; but the food stalls instead ended up hitting us hard as there was just too much food for us to consume everything (we not that greedy folks!!!) The menu consisted of the usual novelty items... mainly Creole food, from callaloo to potato salad and vegetables to dumblings. There was also most meats of your choice that included fried and barbecue chicken, pork, beef and fish. To add to your swollen stomach was also finger food such as pies, gyros and the ever-popular bake and shark. A fruit bar was also available just in case all this was a little too heavy for you or you wanted to change the flavour a bit.

After stuffing we face and indulging in ah few premium drinks at the well stocked, speedy bar and settling in a bit, we soon realize that the once ‘moderate’ crowd in VIP soon turned into one huge sea of people right before our eyes. What was most encouraging was that fact that the crowd was mainly made up of Trinidad’s finest sets of lovely ladies, we were truly beginning to enjoy ourselves even more from then on.

First up on stage was Imij & Co. featuring Michelle Xavier and Ghetto Flex who commanded the crowd’s attention immediately with their burst of energy unto the stage. Michelle and Ghetto Flex displayed their great synergy on stage together delivering all of C2K7 hit singles and those of the past much to the delight of feters. Michelle also put on a great show, calling a male member of the audience on stage proving without a doubt that the ‘white girl’ could definitely flex. By the time Imij and Co. finished their set, both the VIP and general section were literally rammed out with everyone just taking in the strong positive vibe that was ever present throughout the night.

Next on stage were the ever-sensational Kes the Band featuring Kees himself and Nadia Batson. We must mention that one member of the TJJ Fetealotathon® Red Team was never really a big Kes fan, but had to admit that Kees stepped up his game to an extraordinarily high level and has now truly grown to be seen as one of the country’s top performers. Now don’t get us wrong people, we never doubted his talent and versatility but never rated him that high, not until seeing him throughout this Carnival season and that night in particular. Well having a great singer like Nadia Batson at your side also does not do too badly for your career, right! Fresh from her performance at the International Soca Monarch Finals, Nadia also gave a very spirited performance and she and Kees literally ripped up the place sending the crowd in a frenzy with their big tune for C2K7 "My Land". Adding to the excitement, big ole school rap sensation Flava Flav jumped on stage and perform with Kes the Band. Folks when we tell you the vibes was just flowing that night and that superb performance by Kees, Nadia and the Band...... humm! We get goose bumps just thinking about it. Not forgetting the shocking surprise of the night..... Flava Flav in T&T performing with Kes The Band.

Destra and the big band Atlantik then mounted the stage where she delivered an intense, high-energy performance which included all her recent and past hits. A performance which was not greeted by any launching of glow sticks (Bacchanal Wednesday) but by deservingly much love and appreciation from the feters highlighting the vibe for the night. She was treated like the true soca Goddess that she is and in return she thrilled the audience with her riveting performance.

When Destra and Atlantik was finished performing about 4:30am the venue was still rammed out and then the M.C. Giselle D'Wassi One announced that Machel Montano HD was still to come. This coupled with the overall vibe for the night thus far made no one dare to leave the fete as you just could not get enough.

Machel Montano HD stormed the stage at just after 5am to a massive crowd that made it look as it was now 1:30am and the party was now in full swing. Well as everyone expected, Machel was well worth the wait and much much more, trust us!! His Majesty was on a musical high that night delivering one of his greatest performances for the season that had patrons in sheer ecstasy. Machel did not only move the crowd with his dynamic performance but unleashed to a welcoming crowd an arsenal of international entertainers.

Now could you imagine the total excitement of the feters there. We mean just remembering it now is giving us goose bumps. Anyway folks let us wrap things up before we get ah lil too excited. Only two words we want to say about Girl Power 2007..... "Stunningly Sensational".
