Date: Sunday 11th February 2007 Location: St. George's College. Barataria, Trinidad Promotions: St. George's College Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery We collected our media passes for event number four in the Fetealotathon®, Georgian Jubilation'07, from the Dr. around 2:30pm on our way down to Flight Cruise 4 boatride. They say boarding time is 1:30PM at Pier 2, but we eh really worried as we in de land of Trini time. You should see traffic going down the hole!!! Steups. Dr. tried to warn we bout the traffic.... but like we said for this Carnival, "If they have a good event going on at the La Brea Pitch Lake, TJJ dey!!" Fast forward to the end of the boatride... yes, we made it on board and had an absolute ball. So, we fly pass de light house (yes, TJJ does venture pass de light house unlike real Trinis we know) and find ah nice park close to the school for both cars, which we must add were watched by police. So, points already on our check list for secured parking for St. George's. It was a warm reception at the gate like last year, and we even got to shake hands with the school's principal and other "who's who" as we made our way into the fete. De fete was held in "De Quadrangle", and the venue was pretty much laid out the same as last year. However, there was a little added touch with dim lighted plants together with flowing water located around the venue this year, which added a very nice touch to the overall ambiance. JMC 3Veni was on stage when we got there, and although sounding ah little flat, the crowd seemed to be moving to their performance. Not to long afterwards, Adesh Samaroo came on stage gave some of the ladies in the crowd a kiss and did what he does best... buss some wicked Soca Chutney styles singing selections like "Caroni Close Down". We're not sure if Iwer and Black Stalin, who both brought down the house last year, performed earlier.... but either way, they were surely missed by TJJ. Guest artist Skhi performed his likable hit for the season, "Addictive" and was followed by an unknown Soca artist who, as energetic as his performances was, just could not really move the crowd. As stated in de Trini Jungle Juice handbook, Chapter 3, Section 2-1, all upcoming artists and acts should never be allowed to perform at prime time for any event... period! After JMC 3Veni was finished, DJ Richard Simply Smooth did his best to keep the crowd motivated until the iron man Shurwayne Winchester & Traffik arrived. Time to take some more photos and grab a lil' bite..... doubles man, 2 with chutney, slight pepper! All food stations were busy, and feters kept the bartenders busy all night long. Now, it was clear to see that the attendance was up this year and unfortunately the bar crew was unable to maintain the great responsive service we experienced last year. For an All Inclusive fete, people are usually willing to line up for food (especially if it's tasty), but when it comes to keeping their throats wet, wait tolerance is zero percent. To make matters worse, the bar actually ran low on stocks before the fete came to an end. We did manage to get some insight as to the bar breakdown from the promoters/committee at the end of the night, and we're confident that they will get things in full order for 2008. So why we vouching for them? Because they are like one big happy family that continually welcomes others with open arms. For instance, after the fete was officially finished, they were still serving Bake & Shark until the very last patron belly was content! You should of hear some of the small talk going on in the food line too.... boy, Trinis can talk some nonsense, yes! We must hail out the two women that took over the corn soup station when the fete was done too... like ah man say, "Booooy dem is two of de sexiest corn soup woman ever!" Okay, so it's almost 20 mins to eleven, and still no sign of Traffik setting up on stage. Where Shurwayne? Last we heard was de band was stuck in traffic coming out of de hole from CAREC day fete. Not cool. Just as all hope was lost, Shurwayne took main stage to perform with the DJ running his tracks. Although his band didn't make it, partygoers were definitely happy to see him, and had a great last jump up to his array of hits ranging from "Dead or Alive", "Don't Stop" and "Open The Gate". He ended his set with the remix he did with Peter Ram's "Woman By My Side", which wrapped up the 2007 Jubilation. Shurwayne, Shurwayne.... if you are contracted to perform with Traffik for St. George's 2008 All Inclusive fete, please don't stick on we fam again.... be sure to reach with de band!! ;-) George's, keep up the great work! We definitely recommend keeping one of the big bands on your cast for next year, and ensure that they perform nothing less than one and a half hours before close off time. Peoples, how often you can find an All Inclusive fete with decent entertainment, good food, drinks and a nice friends and family environment for a mere $300TT??!!
