We still bawling from de buss head we now collect . yeah man, the parking attendant buss we head with the $30 he charge we fuh parking at Circle Line Cruises, Pier 83. Man, unless you carpool, going on a boatride in NYC will cost you ah arm and ah leg no joke! It's the 2004 International Soca DJ birthday boatride, and even bigger, DJ Spice is celebrating 25 years in the music business . so you know, TJJ gotta represent and show some luv. If you see de long, long queue waiting to board the boat when we pull up. No fret, we have chicken fingers and fries to buss up (thanks Pauline) while we take in the pre-boarding lime.
We set sail about 30 mins after the 9pm departure time, and sad to say, but we still had to wave goodbye to a few unlucky feters that got left behind at the docks. Tsk Tsk. The Baby Blue Experience must go on! Speaking of which, this was TJJ's 1st Baby Blue Experience so we ent know what to expect. The only facts we have are . one should be wearing baby blue (of course the TJJ crew reppin we baby blue), 2 big NY DJs and 2 big Toronto DJs holding the music down and the boat sell off! Folks when the promoters say to wear something Baby Blue wear something Baby Blue nah!! Sticking to the theme does only make the vibes feel sweeter trust us. DJs Bassline and Marly Marl of D'Enforcas, also known as Canada's Soca Navigators, got things started. They played a nice blend of selections before passing the set to fellow Toronto DJ, Dr. Jay de Soca Prince. Well yes, the 2005-2006 International Soca DJ Award-winner kept de pace going, and you know it wouldn't be true Soca Therapy if the Dr. didn't buss some styles. Jay played a special refix to Machel's popular "Jumbie" that got such ah big forward that other men had to wheel the chune for him yes! Waistline pelting and leg in de air as the rhythm section was getting warmed up. "There's a vibe flowing up in here . yeah . put yuh hands up in de air ." Fuss de jumbie tek over people, all we can say is one feter end up with a life-jacket around his neck and whistle in mouth (view photo)! A definite candidate for "Flavor of D'Week" ent??!! So the T-Dot DJs represented, and it was time for the NY segment. All we really need to say here is . DJ Spice and Back to Basics!! Talk done. Man, Spice rinse out so many tunes that we had to ask Back to Basics if he had his rabbit with him, so he could pull it out his hat later on. Of course, we only got a cool smirk back from Ricardo, who was up for the challenge (as always). Starting things off with a sing-a-long Bob Marley set, then onto a wicked back in times Dub session, and rounding things off with some big Soca selections ("Dutty", "Spread The Love", "Down D Road") . Back to Basics showed us why he's rated one of the baddest and most versatile DJs in the business. Aye, when you have ah smallie hanging from the ceiling and throwing waistline (view photo) yuh know yuh mash up de dance! The boat docked not too long after midnight to the sound of Machel Montano's "Higher Than High" and trust us, everyone was feeling nice. The fetin' continues at Fresh Fete Fridays NYC . "The Baby Blue Boatride After Party Edition". With all man jack rolling off the boat hot n sweaty, we really not sure how "fresh" this Fresh Fete ga be, but say wha??!! As Devon say, "Doh fraid to wine on me (cause I dutty) doh fraid to grind on me (cause I dutty). Spice, thanks for having us. We ga see everybody in ah few at Club Ultra! -- Chooks aka Daddy Juice |
