We are rolling strong on a Sunday afternoon to Moorgate station in overcast weather (not that would stop us), why? We heading to the Worship Bar, for what? Babash Events presents "Phoenix Rising - The Launch Party" of the new event managers (professional party throwers) on the scene in jolly ol' London. Starting promptly at 5:00 pm, the tunes of Vendetta Sound was soaring through Worship as patrons began strolling in the venue. So the idea is, we throw a launch event - not a party but will turn out to be a party - make sure everybody know who we are and what we about (yeah is not just about parties) and then we start having more events later on and people would know yeah .... we inside the Babash! I am still confused as to the name of the group, Babash Events, and as to why that particular name? Don't really know, but someday I would get an explanation. So back to the vibes. Early in the dance we were jibbing to some old school rap like KRS-1, Supercat & Biggie Smalls and even the infamous Craig Mack. Man mellow ole school just to rock back, jib and talk your evening nonsense with your friends and guess what? Meet new people too! There were two chefs on board this evening, Anil and Cathy, serving what we like to call a little "Sunday" lunch - Macaroni Pie, Callaloo, Curry Duck, Stew Chicken, Alloo Pie and Salad - all went down very tasty just to keep us from getting too intoxicated. Worship Bar, situated somewhat central is a really weird bar/club/lounge but it has its appeal. The floor we occupied shaped like an "L" (I don't know, but mostly everywhere in London have an "L" shape) and one main bar stretching the corridor followed by the dance floor where the DJs were doing their thing. Nice place, weird setting ... but decent. As more people started piling in and filling the joint, the speakers were pumping Dancehall and Soca. Now none of this new nonsense was playing you know ... nah man, strictly ole school tunes. Thing like 'dugu dugu' and 'grass cyaat' riddims from back in the days when the Base nightclub (in Trini) was the swing every Friday night and we would go to take a flexxx and try and get inside a warmth. Old Soca was playing in between and I was feeling this session. I can't even remember who was on the DJ set, but it was a delicious set! People were eating and wining .... where else you would see that?? Some recent Soca tracks from this year was playing but mostly old ones like "Jammette" and "Tick Tock" .... tune to have yuh bubblin' and wukin' up. Real girl on girl, man on girl, man on girl who on man who on girl ... lol .... choo choo train business!! There were some lovely ladies in the mix too. For a launch I'm of the opinion that there were some gorgeous girls. Ah mean real people were picking up too ... like the stalking rasta man, the man who see a girl and fancy her but she sound too harsh, or even the sexy wuk up Bajans. Watch meh, everybody was likin' themselves. I was likin' myself. The promoters were liking themselves too!! There was even a session that took us way back to the break dancing days .... there were some dudes break dancing in the party and dance-offs ... competition, yes!! ... lol. Could there be anything more entertaining??!! Let's not forget the casual people who make out in parties too... gots to love them. Allyuh go home nah ... LOL ... All in all really, the vybe was nice, everybody had a good time just for a launch. People ate a nice meal. We got served free drinks like every two hours - vodka & cranberry, a lemon daiquiri & a rum and coke - there were some nice friendly bar staff, cool environment, nice music and nice people - no bad vybez. Just what the doctor ordered for a Sunday evening before we all go to work on Monday. Babash Events (www.babash.co.uk) ... welcome. Wishing you all the best!! If this event is anything like what the rest are going to be like, count me in!! TJJ will be there most present and waiting, patiently waiting!!! Amiel |
