LIGHTS OF LOVE

Last October we raved about the great time we had at the Angostura University All Inclusive Fete in Miami. We gave it a great revue not only because it was a darn good fete but because of the fact that the promoters headed advice from the previous year and made adjustments that made a tangible difference to the event. Since then they've been some good ones, some not so good ones. We still try at times to make lil suggestions for improvements, despite some promoter's distain for positive criticism. How else yuh plan to improve? Do you think there such a thing as the "perfect fete?" Before Sunday January 14th 2007 I would have had no trouble answering no to that last question. Now I have to start keep a list of those that should at least spark a debate that it is possible.

Amnesia, ISLANDpeople's all inclusive fete for carnival 2007 is on my list. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and if I try to say anything about this fete I feel I'll be missing out something. So I gonna keep this one short and sweet and let the pictures and videos do the talking. I think it is a difficult task to plan ah event of this magnitude and splendor. But to actually have the plan work so well is a whole different kettle of fish.

They say carnival is woman. This fete was carnival in all its splendor and glory. TJJ got there while it was still day light, an excellent decision. I think we would have missed the true ambiance of this fete one which deserved to be appreciated under the setting sun of this magnificent tropical isle of ours. Not that the swing in the mood of the fete after sunset was a bad thing. That is time tuh get on bad! Out of the darkness came the light. It was a like a separate show all together, a laser light show. Lasers bouncing off clouds, strobe lights and lights strategically positioned near coconut trees to put a mesmerizing glow on the whole fete.

High Fidelity/Less Than Zero had a vibe in the place from the time we reach and they just know how to groove a fete from start, and build it right up to madness time. Big up Benny & Kern! I'll say it again, I'll let the pictures and the videos (Amnesia 2007 Live on TJJ TV) do the talking about the entertainment. Imij and Co., The Big Artists Crew, Denise Belfon (and dat "Bicycle Wine"), Shurwayne Winchester & Traffik, Mr. Slaughter, Kes the Band, Nadia Batson, and last but by no means least, the highlight of many a fete, Machel Montano HD. ISLANDpeople handed out some glowing sticks, watch the videos (Amnesia 2007 Live on TJJ TV) and you'll see the "Lights of Love" nuff said. How about the fact that there were two stages in the fete. "Lose your mind..... with movement" was the theme. One to the East and one to the West, both with line array, state of the art sound systems that were on point. A welcomed change from sound systems that bleedin yuh ears fuss it loud fuh nuttin with frequencies off. Large up the sound and light men, nice job.

Of course Max was in this dance too, and I have tuh mention Laundry with his "Nation of Islam" looking body guard, well look ting in TnT :-) Ah see Max on his way to the Johnny tent, the Johnny GREEN tent. Yuh hear wuh ah say. This raise d bar to another level. The only other place I ever see Johnny Green in ah all inclusive is in ah SocaWeb fete. Can you imagine, sometimes yuh go some "all inclusives" and yuh waitin 30 minutes for a red solo (ah ent go call no names yuh know yuh self). In Amnesia, yuh drinkin Johnny Green with no wait, ZERO, in a separate tent. If yuh ever went a Johnny tasting, yuh know they recommend drinkin' green straight or with water. So in the Green tent was only green and water. A nice touch would have been to add d local sumting to make it all taste better, coconut water! We is Trinis we could twist up d ting little bit. Yuh think as the world discover scotch and coconut, dey aint ga recommend it at tastings too? :-) Wuh yuh eatin'? Chinese food prepared on the spot by chefs straight out a chinee food restaurant? Fajitas, wuh kind yuh want, lamb, pork chicken? Indian, Arabic, bake and shark you name it, iz yours lawwwwwd.

Was this the perfect fete? What we can say for sure is that we gotta say special thanks to all ISLANDpeople crew for the usual love, especially Giselle O for the speedy entrance. Giselle saw us approaching and had everything ready for us, Thanks! Trini Jungle Juice will be in Amnesia fuh sure next year, until then; lewwe raise the lights of love together and light up the air!!! Run track.... "Light It Up".
