Trini Jungle Juice was back at the Notting Hill Arts Club for another Thursday night with YoYo and 1Xtra. This time we made it inside a bit earlier as Soca is advertised until 10pm. With Carnival in the air, everyone was buzzing already and like people were checking TriniJungleJuice.com, because it no longer seemed like a secret and by the end of the night it was quite full. Really, we think it was all the hard work done by Alex Jordan and others at YoYo to promote this Soca night. Keep it up guys!

The usual suspects were there ... Gladiators and Alex Jordan pumped out the Soca for the first half of the night followed by resident DJs Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade. Also as usual there was food available from Hassan and Co. and drink specials. With an effort to promote the art, there was a live performance by a UK based artist - Soca Johnny (John David), with accompanying female vocals by Chardonnay.

John spent his school years in Dominica where he was surrounded by the Zouk/Bouyon culture but he was also influenced by Reggae and Dancehall to develop his own unique style. John is ambitious about his musical career and about pushing Soca music in the UK and gets regular airplay on the local scene. His tune "We Jump" really got the YoYo crowd going and we hope to hear more from Soca Johnny in the future.

We understand this cool club is beginning to be popular with celebrities with Fat Joe and Ms Dynamite making recent appearances at YoYo. Tonight, UK popstar Will Young did come down to check out the soca scene but TJJ had already left.
