Yes, we posse make we arrive at the event late again. We bounce in about 10:30PM and the party finishing at 2:00AM. It was a large contingent comprising of 4 cars and getting Caribbean folks to move from one spot to next is pressure. Getting to the BBQ was long as it was held on the outskirts of London. It was almost close to Heathrow, ah could of board ah plane to Trini one time. Anyway, as soon as we reach, there was a sweet delicious smell sounding the entire area. We rushed inside! The crowd was small but they was dress posh and in high spirits. The bar was serve yourself drinks. We'll say it twice for those still in shock, the bar was serve yourself drinks. What more could you really want at an All Inclusive BBQ! All the proceeds from this BBQ go to a charity in Trinidad. This year was different to the days of "under the flyover", especially with respect to the numbers. The event is not publicized as much as the other events around Notting Hill Carnival time, so the crowd was small and exclusive. But we think maybe too, the rain in the early evening frighten some people who didn't want to travel all that way for a washout fete. But in the end, you have to say it was for a good cause and enjoy yuhself.
The music was sweet. There was cool relaxing calypso styles while people devoured the savory dishes prepared by Brian Danclair. On the menu was mouth watering bar-b-que pork, fish and chicken. Sides dishes included, potato salad, mixed rice, stew peas and much more. Set under tents on a large football pitch, we had the option of dancing both indoors and outdoors. Did we mention there was no end to the drinks; which we'll reiterate was, "serve yourself!" ;-) Needless to say, after a full night some were stumbling home and others couldn't remember who they came with. We even had food for the following day! Plates were prepared for take away.
As the night when on and the music intensified, people started to breakway. There was even a dutty wine face off! Speaking of which, did you see the video for Tony Matterhorn's "Dutty Wine" yet? Of course we have it! See TJJ Music Videos. Big respect to the BWEE crew that mash up the place. Music blasted until 2am leaving partygoers wanting more at the end. |
