in the Nation's Capital, this time Rumors Events hosted a memorable event for
one of our most celebrated sons of the soil, Shaka Hislop. This invitation only
event was held in his honor at Tabaq Bistro and Lounge for the many contributions
he has made to the Caribbean Community throughout his distinguished football career. Now
despite many folks being out of town for the Thanksgiving weekend, the crowd was
still a nice blend of people from all over the islands and elsewhere. In attendance
on the night was Shaka's wife Desha Hislop and brother Kali, Howard University
soccer coaches, Coach Tucker and Lundy, members of the business community, in
particular Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Selman of Crown Bakery; Former alumni and friends,
Dr. Wayne "Freddie" Fredericks, Oliver "Ollie Mo" Mc Intosh,
Sheldon Jones; Former CIC teamates Wendell Regis and Vaughn Olliverrie; Former
National players Mark Ellis, Andrew Oliver and Hisham Gomes, together with many
friends and acquaintances. The
music was supplied by DJ Hazzard, Pump Station Sounds and guest DJ Sprang Int'l. At
the end of the night Shaka was presented with the "Caribbean Pathfinder Award"
given to those that have lead exemplary lives while making distinctive contributions
to the Caribbean Community (at home and in the Diaspora), always seeking means
to create new paths for those to inherit. "We find no greater person at this
time than Shaka Hislop that so embodies this award," Rumors Events committee
member Shurland Oliver further explained to us. As
one of the sponsors and avid supporter of our heroes, we at Trini Jungle Juice
take the time to say CONGRATULATIONS to Shaka!! |
