Date: Saturday 14th October 2006 Location: Tsunami/The Anchorage. Chaguaramas, Trinidad Promotions: Legacy - Big Mike & Friends Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery "HIAWATHA" ... seems a little tricky to pronounce doesn't it??!! Well this is Legacy's theme for Carnival 2K7. According to Legacy's definition, HIAWATHA is the fictitious life-story of a Native American Indian, who is courageous and proud, noble and wise, peace-loving and one with nature. They will pay tribute to the strength, spirit and culture of this civilization that is also represented in one of Trinidad & Tobagos most loved traditional Mas forms. Now that you folks have a better understanding, lets proceed. Around 9 PM we stepped inside a tepee and was greeted by some native Indians on the other side. TJJ was on location this early because we were attending the VIP & Media showing. This was held at Tsunami prior to the main public launch, which was going to be held over at the Anchorage later on. Looks like the same launch concept as last year. So you know de drill... is VIP treatment! Free premium drinks, de DJ running Soca tunes, specially invited guest socializing and well de good ole corn soup and doubles people there ready to take requests. Now before the presentation, the girls all came out and gave a display out of costume. Then at about 11:30 PM, the actual Mas presentation began. Leading the tribe was Big Mike and Juliet followed by once again, the sexy models now decked off in full costume. Now de show getting on de road. The Mas presentation lasted for about half an hour, allowing patrons to see the creativity and beauty of the costumes that will be available to them from the big band Legacy come carnival next year. After that things pretty much wrapped up, and most people began heading over to the Anchorage. At about 1 AM the Mas Presentation for the public launch began. This time the audience that was taking in the glamorous presentation was of a much bigger size. The display lasted for roughly half an hour once again, with folks expressing their likes and dislikes towards the various costumes that they saw. Gracing the stage at about 1:45 AM was Caribbean Traffik Jam featuring lead singers Shurwayne Winchester and Candy Hoyte. They were the first set of live entertainment carded for the night. In a near one hour long performance, Traffik put some extra life into the crowd with recitals from most of the band's big hits from Carnival 2K6. There was even an additional member added to the band who seemed to bring out an all new flavour and style to the band. He was pretty much well received by the crowd and did quite a convincing performance of Peter Ram's big, big chune "Woman By My Side". After Traffik's performance, we pretty much geared up to leave. As we were making our way to the car, we could hear de big man in de business, Neil Iwer George now stepping on stage. ==================================== |
