Date: Wednesday 14th June 2006 Location: Praesidium 19/11 (Frankfurt), Germany Promotions: Island Style, Knockboyz, ISLANDpeople Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery With most of the crew already in Nuremberg getting ready for the TnT vs England match on Thursday June 15th, we thought to ourselves, "How can we miss Glow Germany in Frankfurt de night before??!!" Usually Island Style teams up with Knockboyz for Glow DC Carnival, but since Trinidad & Tobago in the World Cup, they added ISLANDpeople in the mix and decided to make it happen Glow Deutschland style! So, on our way back from Amsterdam, some of the TJJ crew jumped off the train at Frankfurt's Central Train Station - Hauptbahnhof. After organizing with TTFF at the Marriott for the mix up with our England tickets, we walked around downtown Frankfurt in the evening checking out the scenes as Spain's fans were celebrating their 4-0 victory over Group H rivals Ukraine some very cute lady fans might we add. Then it was time to head back to the hotel to take a fresh and get ready for movements. As we surfaced to the main streets, we could see little groups of folks wearing white walking around. We obviously knew were they were going! Unless folks in Germany just like to dress up in white on a Wednesday night and walk around like they lost!! ;-) Two things we quickly learnt about partying on this trip 1. No one really knows how to get to the fete venues or people staying too far away to bother and 2. Trinis not trying to spend Euros to fete - especially when they can get the very same entertainment in Trinidad or elsewhere for much cheaper! So it's about 1am when we pull up to the Praesidium 19/11, and there was a small gathering of folks outside. At first glance we were thinking that de turn out was looking quite shaky, but once on the inside there was actually a decent turnout - with folks still trickling in throughout the night. It was a two level venue, that reminded us of the Roxy building (now Pizza Hut Roxy) in Trini for some reason. The majority of the crowd was upstairs, but we were told that the fete pretty much got moved upstairs when downstairs got too crowded. So upstairs we go. People were lined against the top balcony and the main session was going down inside the main room where Germany's #1 Soca Sound, Soca Twins, had just gotten on the set. Now judging from the heat in de room, you know Soca Twins were doing da damn ting! It was literally our second time hearing them play, and we must say, de fellas can spin tunes. They have actually been nominated in the "International Soca DJ of the Year" and "Best Soca DJ Mix" categories for this year's Soca Awards to be held in New York in September. Large up Franky & Boone! You can check them out at SocaTwins.com. It was a nice blend of crowd from Caribbean massive to local Germans (much luv to our German fren that give us her water out of pure niceness. We luv you too!) from young to old, well we really mean to say "young at heart!" And we must give props to the man who had the flashing Soca Warriors Belt... real styles! Basically the partygoers in the main room were there to fete and get on bad, and the rest of folks were just cooling and do the social ting. This included Machel Montano and the Xtatik family, who showed up later in the night. We only knew Machel was in the house as one set of cameras were flashing by the bar, and when we look so, it was Machel, Zan, Patrice Roberts, Kernal Roberts and crew on da inside. Even Mr. Rupert Clarke aka Rupee was in the dance. It was nice to see and catch up with Rupee with him missing out on the 2k6 TnT Carnival season. Not knowing if the underground subway was going to stop running or not, we decided to call it a night about 4am. Special thanks to Knockboyz and Island Style for the usual love, we had a nice time. Big game for the Soca Warriors tomorrow peoples - Eng-a-land, Eng-a-land, Eng-a-land! We gone "Come back in de Glow... swing your body to and fro... we moving left to right... only WHITE wearing tonight." |
