In the post Carnival period yuh really not too sure what to do with yuhself. TJJ, we fete Sunday to Sunday, day and night, den do Monday and Tuesday. So being back in frigid DC and hearin' bout post Carnival party ... at first we thinkin' this is for people who ent make it down fuh de Carnival, but den again, we talking Fresh Fete Fridays... so we in Up in Dat.

Well let's clear de air, FFF is de premier Soca fete in DC. Giving people a great party just when yuh need it (once a month). This fete have been held at The Avenue Night Club in de past. Soca room on de second floor, nice ceiling height, bouncing wooden floors and just enough light to create that perfect hide-away feeling in de middle of de city. And of course most importantly we think, is dat real limers throwing these jammies. Small changes this week however with de party on de 2nd Friday and at it's new home, Zanzibar on the Waterfront.

Trini Jungle Juice & crew fallin' a little before midnight and must praise Klimaxx for the accommodating us like family fuh Diwali festival. A suggestion would be to have a VIP line for those willing to pay a little more to avoid roping lines. But security was in place and pleasant so everybody felt welcome.

On entry de party was little scanty, but we didn't expect much more at this hour. A few drinks, a little socializing and before yuh know it, dance ram. This party usually have a much better turnout, but was still filled by any standard. It was very obvious who was home for Carnival, cause when chunes like "In your Timin' Girl" by Surge and "Bomb Song" by Bunij buss yuh could see memories on de select faces. DJ Back to Basics outta NY was warming up de set, and yuh could feel as time pass and people start to full out de dance floor dat de tempo of de music start increasing and de energy of de party was catchin' fire. Only experience does bring that kinda skill. One downfall was the speaker layout which made it difficult for those who like to wine while at de bar or leaning on a wall. De sound really died out around the edges which took away from that cozy hide-away feeling.

By 1:30 AM, the big man in de business Mr. Neil Iwer George step on de stage and although all he do was talk over tracks for his whole act ... we must admit de intros, selections and timing was perfect! People was going mad and de sausage balloons dat distribute was de blinding evidence. Big people like toys yes! Iwer buss almost every chune including, "We Reach" , "Ah Home", "Na Do Dat", "Jump and Wine Up", "Iwer Dance", "Yes Iwer", "Wine on Yuh Property", "Bottom in de Road", "Carnival Come Back Again", "Celebrating Carnival" , "Horn Meh Nah", "Brooklyn Anthem" and "Turn Around" just to get yuh pulse up. According to TJJ handbook Chapter 4, Section 11-17; If de temperature cold outside and Iwer say de people want water and hose de crowd wit bottle and bottle of water... AND dey love it... de party nice! We were extremely disappointed that Iwer was intimated by de sauciness that climb over de railing to storm de stage looking for a wine. De man even start work, "How she get up here" into de chorus of "On ah Bam Bam."

By 3 AM we were happy to know that the lights were still off and the music was still jammin but TJJ began to stagger out. The music issues that followed signaled the end of our exit relay and by 3:30 AM, de last of de crew buss de tape.

Final remarks, this remains one of the best functions to attend in the area, but we feel that de combination of the venue change, date change, addition of a live performance and fallin close to Carnival didn't help in making this event as successful as the last few; but we will be back on April 7th and we do certainly expect things to fall back into place. Thanks again to Klimaxx Entertainment for showing DC a good time.
