On a Sunday evening,
the T-Dot Jungle Juice crew like to relax with some drinks, cock-up we
foot and take in some Soca
Therapy (6-8 PM) on FLOW 93.5 FM by none other than the big Soca DJ
in the business, Dr. Jay! Then we catch some sweet Reggae &
Dancehall tunes by the big sound in da business, Riddim Master Spex,
immediately following Soca Therapy... everything cook n curry!! But, this
particular Sunday was not to end just on radio vibes... the official Sean
Paul CD Release Party was going down at Metro nightclub and Dr. Jay
& the FLOW 93.5 Team had a after treat for Trini Jungle Juice.
Now every week is Sunday Night Raw at Metro nightclub, downtown Toronto.
But you dunn know that TJJ is all about exclusive vibes and entertainment...
so tonight, we taking you along for the ride. Bap bap, link up time is
11:00 PM in front of the club, but since we have West Indian blood that
means 11:30 PM!! The line wrap around the corner of Richmond & John
St on one side, and there is another line along Richmond St on the other.
As much as we wanted to take a picture of this drama, it was too damn
cold to pull out camera. So, we take we pat down by security and we on
da inside. Downstairs was fairly packed out with people, and upstairs
was already ram. We guessed this was to be expected since the VIP area
was upstairs and this was were the guest of the hour, Mr. Sean Paul, would
be chillin.
The crowd was a decent blend of folks, and there might have even been
more cuties than usual since it was all about Sean Paul - we ent complaining!!
;-) The DJ cast consisted of men like ill Kidz, Spex and
Dr. Jay - who all brought their own vibes to the dance. Of course
on this particular night, Reggae music flowed the most, and Spex was letting
it rip. Real big tunes, getting real forwards from the crowd. Soca and
Hip-Hop was well received by partygoers as well. Although we must give
props to Dr. Jay, because with this crowd if your selections of Soca not
on point, you can easily lose the crowd. Now, all this action is Live
to Air on FLOW 93.5FM from 10 PM or 11 PM to 1 AM, and hosted by Devo
Brown. Big respect to Devo who we met for the first time.
It was somewhere between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM when Sean Paul was
secretly brought in the club. So, it's TJJ paparazzi time!! Large up Dre
& the entire promotions team for hooking TJJ up with de All-Access
VIP pass allow us to get up close and personal with Sean. Unlike lots
of celebs, de bredrin real cool. And if you didn't know, he's been in
the game for a minute now - at least 8 years! We remember Renaissance
Disco promoting Sean on their mixed cassettes (not CDs) back in 1995,
and folks talkin' bout how de man sounding like Super Cat. So, we had
to big him up for his well deserved success. According to VP/Atlantic
Records, his newest album, THE TRINITY, tops the Reggae charts today,
and sold over 107,000 in its first week, the highest ever reggae debut
in SoundScan history. Around 2:15 AM the bouncers escorted Sean Paul to
a corner overlooking the club, where he blessed the mic letting everyone
know that he was on the inside. Ahhhh Duttty Ehhh! He gave us a taste
of some classic Sean Paul tunes, then a few of this recent big hits, followed
by one or two tunes from his TRINITY album. De dance was definitely burnin!
When Sean was finished performing, it was back to the VIP area for him
and his crew. The dance was then carried on with some sweet Reggae classics
until it was lights on, goodnight folks! All in all, the vibes for this
event was nice everytime - definitely an event we were glad not to have
missed! On a flip note, when we were leaving the club there were one set
of 5-0, news crews and paramedics in front the building. Yip, apparently
there was gun shooting in the Reggae room and two men were wounded. What
are the odds of this non-sense happening the same night TJJ decide to
roll??!! All we have to say is thanks to God looking over us... and yeah,
backdoor club exits!!
A special thanks to the entire FLOW 93.5FM crew for the love and hospitality.
This is TJJ signing out from downtown T-O.
