For night number two Trini Jungle Juice destination was Bongos located at the back of the American Airlines Arena (AAA), Downtown Miami for the 5th Annual Girl Power fete. We figured any fete that have "Girl" in the title we dey... and the list of performers they were showcasing clearly made this event a sure fire hit! They say when expectations are too high it is easy to be disappointed, but such was not the case at Girl Power. Islands United and friends (big up to Dave & Itchi) definitely put on one of the top events for the Carnival. TJJ reach downtown bout 1am and as we were parking you could feel it in the air... people from everywhere just migrating towards the steps of the AAA... you could hear the music in the street below, making you almost want to run up the stairs to reach de fete! But we took our time - got directed to the V.I.P entrance - picked up our passes and made our way into the dance. This was our first time at Bongos... everything was setup in the courtyard outside, there was people as far as the eye could see, and oh yeah the bar was immediately to your left. Heh, we gotta know where the drinks are located! Piece of advice to the Bongos' staff - don't put the drink chits table right next to the bar. This resulted in unnecessary crowding for alcohol consumption! And next time, maybe have more than one drink chits table to speed the process along. The vibes at Girl Power was real nice and the weather was good considering how bad it had been days before. The performances had the crowd tizick!!! Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Faye Ann Lyons, Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon and Iwer George (to name a few) all gave energetic performances. And on a personal note, may we just say Faye Ann looked amazingly stylish & hot! Let we run a big Faye Ann tune for that... Wave. Well, it was off to work on a few hours of sleep then Scruples Block-O and Island People Black & White Blend Friday night. We gone... |
