Although Orlando's
Carnival is one of the smallest North American Carnivals, the atmosphere
surrounding this event was on par with a Caribana, Miami or New York.
TJJ spoke to one smallie who said she had never thought about coming to
Orlando for the Carnival but could not miss this show!
Now, why would an
out-of-towner, who would "never" come to Orlando for de Carnival,
come for just one event? Simple... In dis corner: Bunji Garlin,
Rupee, Iwer George and KMC. In de other corner: Destra,
Fay-Ann Lyons, Gailann and Lil Bitts.
TJJ has sampled fetes
from all over the globe and this event lived up to its billing. Both Destra
and Fay-Ann's performances were very energetic and the crowd was there
lyric for lyric. In fact, the 2nd level was abandoned after a short time
because even the "social" partygoers felt the vibe and wanted
to get closer to the stage. No matter how many times you witness the "Sea
of Flags" at this type of event, it's always a spectacle. During
Rupee's performance one smallie got quite "familiar" with the
Atlantic Recording Artist... after which she told her crew "Wow,
dat was a handful!" Real jokes! Rupee maintained his professionalism
and the show went on. After all, the song is called Tempted to Touch!
Big up Rupee.
Backstage the entertainers
were very engaging, gracious and media friendly... and of course, showed
their usual love to TJJ in supporting our movement to take Caribbean entertainment
to higher heights. You would have thought you were at a regular Sunday
lime and not a major concert; the first of its kind held at the Hard Rock
Café.
A special thanks to
all the promoters for what we considered to be the event of the Orlando
Carnival.
