Labor Day ... Home of the NY Backyards

This entire weekend was a bit disappointing, I must say. Carnival is a time to free up and enjoy culture, festivities and fetes, but its apparent that quite a few people did not get the memo. The Carnival was full of disappointment as it erupted in tragedy from Saturday straight through to Monday night. But we still hit a few fetes for a small lime, still making the most of the weekends as we accustom doing.

We summoned TJJ reps from all over to come in, and boy were we lucky, there was no way Text-a-holic and I could hold down the entire NYC scene a second year in a row. Friday night kicked off as Masqueraders got a taste for all they were waiting for, at Crave 'A Carnival Rave'. The next night ended up at Tiki Village with Nic aka Roopie (our Trini connection fresh from Cayman) where fire dancers heated up the fete, but we quickly got exhausted being in the same party for 8 hoursss! Rhell night shift!

Morning arrived, and Basic Jouvert Boatride was always the order for a Labor Day weekend, and I was disappointed that I didn't make this one, instead I ended up at Sunnyside Up NY Breakfast Party with Anika aka Trini Redz, which was really something else. Sun was hot and blazing, and people were fainting, madness! Amen for the sprinkler and foam pit!! Nice way to cool it down. A nap was calling before we headed to Amnesia 2011.

More than enough Kes and Machel for the weekend! Don't even need to talk bout dat! From Friday to Monday night... Machel and Kes killed the entire city borough OVER and OVER and OVER again!

Lil Redz and I headed out on the road Carnival Monday! The weather held up, even though a few clouds threatened a few rain showers. The parkway started up pretty late. Minutes to 12 and bands had not been organized and masqueraders were still lingering on Buffalo Ave. When bands did roll out, we waited around before the next one would follow behind. As usual, the real competition was between Sesame Flyers and Ramajay. The bajants in plain clothes played more mas than those in costume, as every year, there's those who come on the parkway strictly to jam somebody.

The fun was unfortunately cut short when shots were fired at different points of the day. That was our cue to rap it up and head out. Parkway next year? Not too sure nah, might have to let someone else take the lead .... 3-years in a row has me EXHAUSTED! But no worries, I still will be in the NY Labor Day weekend fetes because they are always guaranteed to be a fun, safe time straight through with nothing but good vibes.
