I see people, Plenty people. I see people, VI people!

St. Thomas Carnival 2024 was a grand celebration that encapsulated the essence of the island's culture and spirit. Throughout the week, the Carnival Village served as the epicenter of excitement, hosting a lineup of headline acts that captivated audiences and kept the energy soaring. This year's Carnival Village was dedicated "Malvern's Melodic Greathouse" honoring music educator Malvern Gumbs, who boasts a 27-year long career as a music teacher and 10 back-to-back road march titles with Spectrum Band (including this year's title with the song "V.I. People")

The festivities kicked off with the Carnival Village Opening and "Musical Masquerade" headlined by the legendary Machel Montano, whose electrifying performance set the stage for an unforgettable week. Soca sensation Kes kept the vibes alive on "Greek Night," while Patrice Roberts brought her own brand of magic to the stage on "International Flag Fete" night.

Party Tun Ova (PTO)... well done. It was level pumpments once the party got going. There were a few other private events that took place during the week, and for the most, we've heard only good reports. It warms my heart to see the party landscape expanding, and more importantly, maturing so all Carnival Chasers could get their fill of both pulsating fetes and electrifying concerts.

Thursday morning, all roads lead to J'Ouvert on the Waterfront! A big shout out to Hot On The Spot for providing the wings and Johnny Cakes to keep our energy levels up.

"Roots Rock" night saw reggae royalty Barrington Levy and Sizzla Kalonji alongside dancehall icons Teejay and Jada Kingdom, delivering performances that kept the crowd on their feet. And then came Shaggy, whose timeless hits and infectious energy transported everyone straight to Jamaica on Closing Night (following the Adult Parade on Satuday) for "Carnival Tabanca - Las Lap." Despite a hiccup with the cancellation of Friday Night Carnival Village due to weather, spirits remained high and the energy never wavered.

Bringing the curtain down on the Carnival week, Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy delivered a stellar performance at "Utopia - The Unity Concert" on Sunday.

Through it all, the Carnival Village remained a hub of excitement and community, showcasing the best of St. Thomas' talent and hospitality. St. Thomas Carnival 2024 was a testament to the island's vibrant spirit and the undeniable power of music to unite people in joy and unity.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Duration	Monday to Monday. Wednesday to Sunday works if you don't have the vacation days. There are free (yes, FREE!) concerts every day (Monday to Saturday) in the Carnival Village with both local and international headliners. J'Ouvert takes place Thursday morning and the Parade on Saturday. As the private events sector contines to grow, there's time to enjoy the island!
Parade Day	Adult's Parade takes place on the Saturday. Mas bands are called "Troupes" and if a float is included then it is called a "Floupe".
Currency	United States Dollar
Temperature	The US Virgin Islands have a tropical climate. Temperatures throughout the year are between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius (77-86° Fahrenheit). The best time to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands is April to June, when you can expect mild weather and very little rainfall.
TJJ Recommended Hotel	Marriott's Frenchman's Cove. In 2024, we enjoyed our stay at this beachfront vacation ownership resort offering diverse amenities and two- and three-bedroom villa rentals on a picturesque hillside overlooking the azure waters of Pacquereau Bay. Right next door is The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman's Reef. Bluebeards Castle & Resort. It's an historic property dating back to the 1600's. The resort occupies an entire hilltop with spectacular views overlooking the harbor and town of Charlotte Amalie.
Best places to stay	If you want to be within striking distance to the Carnival action, you should stay in Charlotte Amalie area. If you desire having sand in your toes on a daily basis, then choose any of their popular Beach Resorts.
Communication / Mobile Providers	If you have a mainland U.S. mobile plan, it should operate seamlessly, and without any roaming charges, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This should definitely be the case for both AT&T and T-Mobile. If you're with another carrier, call and confirm if you're good or will need one of their international/roaming plans.
Transportation	The best way to get around any U.S. Virgin Island is in a car – either your own rental or a taxi.
Flights	Fly into Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) located on the southwestern side of St. Thomas - approximately four miles east of the capital city, Charlotte Amalie. If traveling back to the United States, you will have to clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) when leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands, so give yourself extra time (3 hours to be on the safe side).
FOOD AND DRINKS
Cost of a 2 Piece Combo	US$11.99 for a 2 Piece Chicken Combo. Using our KFC global standard, a 2 Pc. Chicken Combo, which includes individual side & medium drink, cost $5.99 in the US.
Late Night Eats	Carnival Village or 'deh Village' as it is locally referred to, has lots of booths that sell local foods and drinks til the wee hours of morning. Johnny Cakes are your best friend, but be prepared for a lil wait.

Local Food	Johnny Cakes, Dumb Bread, Kalaloo, Gooseberry (Cherry) Stew, Tamon (Tamarind) Stew, Tart (coconut, pineapple, guava, mango & strawberry).
Local Drinks	Bushwacker, Painkiller. Enjoy their Cruzan® rum. Go brave with the Cane Rum.
Alcohol purchase	The majority of Troupes (jouvert and mas bands) are drinks inclusive.
