CROP
OVER 2013 COVERAGE
Don't Want to Go... Last Man Standing! (Edwin Yearwood - Last Man Standing ) ** Throughout this round up I'll be referencing some of my favourite 2013 Crop Over soca tunes, so when you see the play () button, click and enjoy. This is your captain speaking... This is your captain speaking! (Bobo & Fadda Fox - Boat ) Once again your very own Daddy Juice and the TJJ crew touched down in BIM to experience Crop Over 2013 first hand. Frenchie, Juicy Juice, Red Sno Cone and for her first ever Crop Over, Roopie (did you hear her Crop Over cherry pop? ) and yours truly - measured the landscape, dibbied up, sorry divvied up the events and set out to fete.... um... we mean work. I got ah question fuh yuh ... I got ah question fuh yuh ... I got ah question fuh yuh ... I got ah question fuh yuh ... Barbados, how yuh landscape get so broad ??!! (Cooper Dan - Question Of De Year ) We covered 15 events in a 4 day, 5 night period and this does not even include Kadooment day itself! Mind you, the number of events could have been more but for cancellations (Glow and Booze AM) and miscommunications (A.M.BUSH BIM and OH Ship!). Aye, anyone see Jules? Roopie wanna give back that bracelet. In stark contrast to last year when there was a weather system in the area that affected proceedings, this year's weather was right and nothing but vibes was left to come in. One couldn't help but notice there was another kind of system in the area though as we were informed that over 22,000 Trinis flew in for Crop Over (think sound system, winning system, party system) and they were in fete after fete after fete.... or should that be cruise after cruise after cruise??!! While I must say I could have done with hearing some more local soca (perhaps after nearing my 9th carnival for the year I was just eager to hear some different music and thought BIM was THE place to deliver), the DJs really had the parties pumping. Local DJs Salt & Donn, Mali Fresh & Scott Le Roc and Monsterpiece to T&T's Nuphoric, Dei Musicale and the most versitle dj in the world, Private Ryan, really had the vibes nice. We even saw Toronto's female DJ Revz in the mix. But BIM, when it comes to Crop Over... I want to hear 60-70% Bajan soca!! Here's some of TJJ's Hot Picks
for 2013 Crop Over Music:- Back to the fete schedule.... Kicking things off was Soca Titans on Wednesday night with the one and only Double M featuring. The crew moved on to Frazzled 5 and new comers Lush and Beach House Barbados on Thursday. Friday saw things kick inna gear with Roast Cruise and it's After Party Stumbling, Baje Jouvert, and Foreday Morning romps. Man we now getting STARTED! Saturday was Scorch Cruise, Bliss and Dis is Rick. Tired you say?! We ain't got tiiiiiime for daaaat!!! It was Scorch Breakfast Party, Limerz Cruise, Booze Cruise and Booze Premium to taper off the Sunday action. The Crop Over 2k13 party schedule was like some condense, consdense, condense for true.... sweet and thick! (Porgie & Murda - Condense ) With all these parties though we need to give you our ranking. TJJ Guru Report Card for Crop Over 2013
And then came the piece de resistance...... KADOOMENT DAY! On the road with Baje International was vibes and our final liming place after taking a pass through Harbour Lights, Zulu, Power x Four another other mas bands. Now Zulu's VIP truck deserves a lil' special mention here - FOOD (and I"m talking garlic shrimp) was being prepared ON DE TRUCK, with nuff finger foods, champagne (with folks to serve it too), fireworks, lounge couches - it was right up! Personally it's a nice respite from the road but as the Bajan parade is so short anyway (stick a pin I coming back to this) this would be my food stop and then back to the real action on the road. After all Soca Kartel's (Blood & Mikey) song "Roll It" provided ample instructions and I was able to rock back and enjoy the spoils. Unstick pin - what's up with arguably my 3rd best carnival in the Caribbean only having one parade day? TJJ made the call in 2011 and we making it again.... "If St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Grenada all have 2-day parades... Barbados, you have no excuse... NONE! Six hours racing down the narrow roads to get to Spring Garden (where most bands disseminate) isn't cutting it. A 2-day jump will not only give mas revellers more satisfaction, but will also grow the Crop Over festival period." Even Roopie agrees, with a 2 day parade Crop Over could come in as the 2nd best Caribbean Carnival... and this was her 8th Carnival territory so far. With a bess party line up prior to the parade really it's just the amount of time on the road that seems to be faltering. Big thanks to all our BIM friends and family ... too many to all mention. Nuff TJJ love to you. Till next year! Next Carnival destination ... Grenada's Spicemas! We Love Carnival ... We Know Carnival ... WE ARE CARNIVAL! s Nice pon d' Road... but Dibby inna
