Happy 30th Anniversary Batabano!

Once again you did yourself proud Cayman... as always, it was one of the sexiest carnivals we attend each year. And this year it was even seXier with the introduction of new bands and more ROAD.

The joke was since landing in Grand Cayman, all we hearing is one set of ole talk about having enough energy for this year's Batabano Adult Street Parade. "Make sure and get enough rest", "I hope they having extra ambulances on the road", "That sun is going to be scorching!" were a few of the comments shared by our friendly Camanians. And why?

Well their mile and a half length parade was doubled ... yes folks (brace yourself) a grand total of three miles. What we at TJJ will call a walk in the park for any Trini or true carnival reveller. With a 2PM start time (usually 3PM), we were stoked and ready for diiiiiiii rooooooadddddd! However at the end of the jump, most masqueraders were actually exhausted. Not from the extended route, BUT from the mas bands simply moving too fast not allowing them to soak in and properly enjoy their time on the road. In fact, the parade finished earlier than prior years (do the math).

So I propose one of two things, 1) Keep the longer route, but have the trucks move at a slow, enjoyable pace (it's carnival, not a walk-a-ton) OR 2) Go back to the original route and start time so there's no sense of rush.

Congrats to Swanky International (swanky.ky) on winning their 6th "Band of the Year" title with 2013 presentation 'WINGS'. Shout out to new mas bands Iconz (iconz.ky) and Fresh (freshcarnival.com). Iconz oh Iconz ... your costumes looked Hott!

Rewind to Thursday....

The Cayman Carnival Batabano Committee annual Masquerade fete "Le Masque – A Masquerade Experience" kicked off our carnival week. The headliner was smooth jazz and jazz/reggae saxophonist from Barbados, Arturo Tappin. Backed by live band including a pannist (Terry 'Mexican' Arthur), Auturo rocked the Tiki Beach crowd who were enjoying their buffet dinner, wine and champagne. But it was Tappin's soca-jazz set that truly won me over and got my 2013 Batabano off to a good start.

Later that night, we stopped in at Elements Nightclub to check out Mr. Worldwide's (Pitbull) protégé, Sensato for Rumba's 3 Year Anniversary Party with our hommie Barrie Hype keeping the Soca pumping in the SKY VIP lounge all night.

On Friday night two Bajan calypso giants - Mighty Gabby and Red Plastic Bag - performed at "Vintage Kaiso". Whilst over at "Blue and Orange - The Official Paint Fete", Trinidad soca diva Destra Garcia put on quite a show for the paint covered partygoers.

Fast forward to Sunday...

After talking about it for 2 years now, we finally linked up with DVB Entertainment for our 1st Annual Boat Ride "Sunday Breeze" ... and it was EPIC! It was Rum, Sun and FUN as sailed on the sexy Cayman Sundancer out to Rum Point to continue partying in the water. Big up to all the DJs - Barrie Hype, Eternal Vibes, Renato, DomUneek and Royal ... Vibes Cyan Done!! Of course we couldn't have made it happen without Swanky Int'l. Cedric (Cayman Bacchanal) ... respect concrete. If you didn't hear about this boat ride, you better ask somebody! Truss.

Special thanks to all the sponsors who made our trip possible and the Batabano Committee for listening and extending the parade route, but more importantly, allowing us to celebrate your 30th anniversary. Jason & Jon, cheers for the Batabano 2013 Extras gallery.

See you all in 2014!
