Bunji Garlin in SwedenInterview with Bunji Garlin
Event: Tune In 2006
Date: Friday 18th August 2006
Location: Hötorget (Utomhusscen). Stockholm, Sweden

TJJ: What is the best Carnival for you besides Trinidad Carnival?

Bunji Garlin: The best Carnival in the world to me is Grenada Carnival.

TJJ:
Have you heard about Swedish women?

Bunji Garlin: Yeah, all good things... that they are very friendly, very honest and very beautiful. And saw that for myself today.

TJJ: Where in the world, according to you, can you find the hottest women?

Bunji Garlin: In Trinidad & Tobago of course!

TJJ: Are you married? :-)

Bunji Garlin: Not yet!

TJJ: Who is the hottest Soca producer now and why?

Bunji Garlin: That is a kinna clash, it's between Shawn Noel (Ma$tamind Productions) who has just moved to the U.S. Shawn produced Shurwayne Winchester's tune this year ("Don't Stop"), Pot of Gold Riddim, Island Riddim and the Immediate Riddim. Then it's a youth name Kasey Phillps, son of veteran producer Kenny Phillips, doing some dangerous stuff.

TJJ: What kind of studio software do you use?

Bunji Garlin: Pro Tools, Logic... the reason we use these tools is to develop the sound by recording with live instruments in the studio, and the same instruments on stage, to bring a distinctive Asylum band sound to the stage exactly as we want to. If somebody hear a tape or a CD, they will be ale to tell it's the Asylum!

TJJ: The Soca Warriors' song... Fighter?

Bunji Garlin: Well it's not my song, it is by Maximus Dan. All of us represent the same country, and as you outside you have to showcase it. You have to defend each other, and if the people like the song , they will want to know who it by because it shows how Soca is a feeling, a frenzy, and dancing and excitement.

TJJ: You played a well mixed set tonight (from a wicked version of Hotel California, to latest jump up Dancehall), is it just because it's Sweden?

Bunji Garlin: No, the set is always like that. I consider myself musically across the board, don't limit to just just Soca alone, we do different things, different genres of music and it's a show of the whole band.

TJJ: Is Trinidad safe now?

Bunji Garlin: Well, that is a very good question... I will answer honestly. It's not as safe as it was. It is still a beautiful place, but not as cozy as it used to be.

TJJ: Now you have destroyed Sweden, will you be back?

Bunji Garlin: I would love to, but it depends on the promoters, the radio stations and the people out there who want to make it happen. Call in to the station and request the tunes, call the promoter and tell him you want to see Bunji Garlin, and listen to Soca

TJJ: Respect concrete as always Bunji. We go catch you at the after party at Bar Brazil XL.
