BACCHANAL
JAMAICA 2010 COVERAGE
Party Guru Report Card for Bacchanal JA 2010
Jamaica... You've Won Our Hearts (again)! Last year, we gave you our "Party Guru's Guide to Carnival in Jamaica", so this rounds we just following our own advice and rolling with the flow... Flight - Air Jamaica ... CHECK! The coconut cookies and banana chips snacks are besssss! Currency - Organized on arrival @ Airport ... CHECK! Not wanting to be taking JA dollars back home, where it's as good as Monopoly money, I was exchanging US as needed. Everything for me was done using "Pan Chicken" currency ... so when I gave a spranger $100 JA for a "secured parking" spot, that was 1/3 of a Pan Chicken meal gone!! Communication - SIM Card @ Digicel Airport store ... CHECK! Believe or not, but I finally got on BBM in JA (yeah, I couldn't rid of my iPhone ... it has an app for everything)! Accommodations - Courtleigh Hotel & Suites and Knutsford Court Hotel booked ... CHECK! A breath of fresh air in the heart of New Kingston!! Celia & Sheldon, thanks for everything! In 2009, Bacchanal Jamaica had both Machel Montano HD (Beach J'Ouvert'09) and Destra (Bacchanal J'Ouvert'09) ... so a big question on everyone's mind was, "Would Bunji & Fay-ann (Beach J'Ouvert) and Shurwayne Winchester & IMIJ & Co. (Bacchanal J'Ouvert) deliver in 2010?" Read reviews for each gallery. Our party agenda was pretty much the same last year, except for Easter Weekend in Ohcee, we finally made it to Absolute Adventure's "LUAU" and ventured to BayCrest's All-Inclusive "KAMPAI". Back in Kingston, we had to showcase some of the carnival culture at the "Clash of Steel" PAN FETE on the Wednesday night. Both Frenchmen (Blocko and Bazodee) and Bacchanal Jamaica (Soca @ de Sandbar and Bacchanal J'Ouvert) annual carnival events were on point as usual, leading us up to the ROAD MARCH, ready & excited! In between all of the feting, we did manage to squeeze in some site-seeing and a lil' of the tourist attractions - read more in our 'On The Rock' 2010 Extras gallery. "I love college but I'm going to the beach, money in pocket so ah know I have to reach..." Both Ding Dong's "Holiday" and Major Lazer ft. Vybz Kartel "Pon De Floor" were the two anthems for the week! Yes it's Carnival time, but remember... this is Reggae country! And also, getting both Soca and Dancehall is one of the many pluses for Bacchanal Jamaica goers. I left JA with that feeling of sadness (like the year before)... not only because another good carnival was over, but because of all the new and strengthened friendships I made while there. Jamaica has won a very special place in my heart, and I owe it all to Bacchanal Jamaica! Once again, we'll like to send a very special thanks to Bacchanal Jamaica, the Jamaica Tourism Board, and not forgetting Air Jamaica and The Knutsford Court Hotel for making our trip possible. It was another fun-filled Carnival in Jamaica experience. See you guys at Bacchanal Jamaica 2011! Yours truly, |
